  1. ooof \ now thats bad visibilty , but i expect the windscreen wipers make it bearable :D
  2. great pics chap thanks for posting them , my great uncle used to talk about scrub clearance with anchor chains back in the 60's & 70's in the northern teritories he used to drive an old cat D9 i think. question , about the stick rake , looks an awsome machine but where does the raked stuff go ? does it leave it in rows to be picked up ? or is it reverseable & just keeps raking it all till you reach where you need to be . also with the ammount of groundwork being done don't you loose a lot of the natural moisture the soil holds ?
  3. no there's a magic reset button under the nearside of the cab, real awkward to get to , but a quick press of that got all my hydraulics working again
  4. you don't need a competition to post your pics up mate , just go ahead & post them
  5. looks like i was the only root crop entry that a lot of other people wanted back then
  6. ah are you thinking of the main electric box under the righthand front floor pannel ? yes they did tend to suffer none more so than my 3080, well it certainly started to suffer when the boss started to reprograme it with a 1/4lb ball pein hammer :D every so often id have permanent 4wd,no PTO & no hydraulics , but a quick reboot with the hammer would get it going again
  7. keep it going chap looking good , will get back to my pdc 699 soon
  8. looked quite good in grey but stunning in red , what hp is that bill ,?
  9. ah but then you do seem to be the forums exception to every rule john :D not seen a pic of your 590 john pic please hmm to a degree yes sean they would , but then having a tractor that cant actually do any work means it's as good as a tractor that won't start, nearly all the electronic faults with the 'computer' on the 3000 could be reset by pushing a magic button under the cab , or just replacing the damaged board , or simply a fuse, nowadays new tractors need to be reconfigured or reprogrammed

    At work with Gav

nice pics gav , looks like you were lucky to not have any brusing without the soil on the web i dare say the agitators were turned right down to idle, but nice sample though, not many bulk store potatoes down here that i know of , it's usually either graded straight off the field , or boxed into cold stores . nice straight furrow mate although , my back would have been giving me some agro by now especially running over the rows like you are, maybe you like the sea sick feeling as for you lot & the ploughing straight question , the biggest problem i see people have is their curve starts on the headlands, thats because when you make the turn & line up again they let the rear wheel down into the furrow too quickly & before the plough is lowered so as the tractor wheel goes down into the furrow the plough swings to the lower side , thus , drawing in at a slight angle , my ex boss was the same , he'd start with a reasonably good line & by the 5th run he'd be ploughing a banana , used to take me ages trying to get it back right , 9 times out of 10 i'd have to plough one way at each end the curve was so severe good job it was harrowed for maize as the drill man would have thought i was nuts trying to follow the ploughing :D same as gav , 6ins for wheat/ barley , approx 9 for maize & up to 12 ins for potatoes
  11. you got to get dave gilmour in gadansk mate , but you have to listen to it at night , it's not really daytime listening i usually have it on early hours , rockingly good mate that vid bit was taken at penrhos ? nr. abergavenny rich also been to Llansoy, Llandovery, a few round Carmarthen, Cwmfelin Mynach & Whitland monday i will be going to Moylgrove near Cardigan
  12. nah was listening to it paul, & it wasn't 'the floyd' mate well not of a fashion , it's dave gilmour live in gadansk shipyard brilliant
  13. wasn't the valves that was the problem on the 1690,1594,1694 it was usually oil pump failure if you ever buy a real one thats the first thing to get sorted !
  14. do you keep any of it for home feed mart ? you said you had two 29tonners in , so i asume thats for the feed mills
  15. hauled beside one of those many years ago , matter of fact i used to operate the same sort of thing except it was a 1690 !
  16. well brian , i have to say you've done a fantastic representation on a true classic tractor, got a soft spot for these tractors the engine note is unique & used to sound great on a forager ,so best get it hitched up to your jag forager to really show it off
  17. nice to see he got out of the cab to see if the usual 85 year old grandma could reverse her metro before he hit reverse :D
  18. well i decided to have a film moment in the lanes of wales comes in 2 parts as it turned out \ the second part is what happens when a deere gets in the lane
  19. it's not just the tractors that have changed really it's also the farmers & drivers attitudes that have changed & the cab that the technology sits in , i mean could you really see any major electrical computer parts surviving in a workday tractor such as the MF590 or FORD 6600 that was full of mud & dust 90% of the time & working in all weathers with the back windows open ? where as todays drivers have an old bit of carpet at least in the cab & windows securely shut the advance of the computer also steadies the workload it has as well unlike older tractors with got to get it done drivers are in the past as modern tractors are given that little bit more of everything before it would reach it's stress limitation the engines are built to handle power upgrades , where as a 4 year old 590 or 66 with a turbo added were liable to go bang !
  20. a rare beastie , rather shy & retireing in these parts the MF 2620 the tractor i want MF 699

  22. thanks for the comments chaps , worth taking the pics for replies like those thanks bill , yes i've had it from new , was supposed to be replaced next november , but think the lease maybe extended , as the scania's MVF bought are giving a few teething problems & they're not a year old yet , boss says if scania dont get things sorted in the next year , they'll send them back , scania... king of the road ? king of the workshops more like
