  1. windrowing maybe the way to go on fields when it's dry mark but what happens when the ground conditions arnt so good ? like nick sorry about all the questions , but i hold a genuine interest for people like yer self who go out on a limb to give it a go. I especially like the way you explore all the pro's & con's after you have bought all the kit, almost precisely what a bussiness manager would tell you not to do \ there's a system Nr chard that has all green waste tipped into a dissused silage pit, (sadly we got plenty of ex-dairy farms round here :'( ) a local contractor has a bunnings dung spreader with vertical beaters & moves the waste once a week from one side of the pit to the other, he spreads it against the pit wall & moves forward a few ft each load then tidy's up with the loader till he comes back the following week & does the same the other side of the pit for about 5-6 weeks , then it's all loaded , taken to somewhere that has a bagging plant , then onto pallets & out to garden centers
  2. ooh not sure where to stand on this as i've driven a 2 door 590 2wd red cab & 2 door 575 4wd red cab on a W plate & W was 1980 mind you to throw a spanner in this completely i've also driven a single door 575 2wd two tone cab also on a W come to that even driven a 590 red cab with a two tone 2nd door fitted ! think it's important to remember that the MF recorded timeline maynot coincide with the market release date the tractors were built ,sold or registered. Another thing changed ,circa: 80/81 red cabbed 2 door 590's also had a manifold change & the exhaust came up the RHside of the bonnet & not through the bonnet, a smaller steering wheel was fitted & a better seat was also fitted , the two peice grill was replaced with a single peice grill the 12/12 3 stick gearbox was also offered on late models alongside multipower & standard 8speed units I saw a peanut stand Heard a rubber band I saw a needle That winked it's eye But I think I will have Seen everything When I see An elephant flyyyyyyyyyyyy click on pic to enlarge below is an 81 X plate 590
  3. well managed to finally build my 550 & yer right thats almost the whole floor cut out ! & it certainly gets flimsy when the cut into the rear is made , i had a practice on an old one first & snapped it ! also i couldn't find a good 2wd axle so had to sort of rebuild / rehash one & it sort of works . as well as letting the front sit lower as could grind the pin ring at the top side , when reversed it shortens the wheelbase , looks a bit pigs ear but paint will improve it's looks ! have also got to find something other than the red cap to fit to hold the axle in place hope you dont mind the pictures just click on them to enlarge
  4. there's one being pulled between the bath / tetbury / stroud area mark , & working well by all accounts , hauled by a fastrac, & visits all the local schools & playing fields & municipal parks where ever the council have contracted the workout to , to collect tree thinnings , grass cuttings etc looked a fair bit of kit , but it looked pretty battlescarred , it may well chomp tree limbs, logs & pallets , but id try to avoid them if at all poss, what ever the the one i followed had been fed certainly didnt agree with it , well not going by the ammount of bulges dents & metal patches welded to it so if you get to buy one of these at an astranomical price & it doesn't quite work out ,you'll soon be the proud owner of a 4 berth caravan & a house reposession order :D
  5. sorry mart , but does anyone still inject amonia , either into stubble or grassland still ? not seen it done for years
  6. was a good day ol , always something to watch , & good exersize as well
  7. i think the decision will be related to my bank account
  8. thanks for the vote as for the plough , i know it's worth a groan at the predictability but was thinking of keeping it massey , maybe a 3f ferguson of maybe a later red 41 thanks ,the conditions were good although i thought some could have gone deeper a few inches to get a bit of moisture for the tops as the top edge of the furrows tended to crumble easily, i think a bit deper would have helped hold the crowns sorry bill didn't find out what the old iron was
  9. ooh now thats thrown it now you said caustic it probably was as we used to treat crimped wheat with the same stuff but having said that , the barrels used to say ammonia on the chopper trailer not so sure about either now , for all i remember the straw was probably treated with rum & coke \
  10. was a great day & there were of course the modern day equipment for the reversable classes but batteries getting low but did make me think a how many years before there are no old time true ploughmen to keep going with this art , i can plough but i'm no ploughman , so maybe i shold think about getting a plough for the 168 maybe ?
  11. & of course the real stars of the show were the horses
  12. this little chap was probably the hardest worked fergie of the day
  13. back in the day these two would only be in the same field for one reason.......to show each other up & to be the next prospective purchase for the farmer nowadays the rivalry is left to the kids
  14. there's always something for everyone & even i have to admit some of those fords were in pretty good condition. this 3060 was here for some serious ploughing , even the drivers sandwich box had a hydraulic lid the lonesome DB950
  15. i think not steve , after all following the next 6 pics he'd of had a meltdown
  16. there were some really nice examples of restored 35's
  17. i have to admit , some of the pics i took are pretty bl00dy good , i've surprised meself ! this is the closest at getting the 2 MF130's working together i got
  18. decided to have a bit of a walk round with the boys & the dog , & just like last year very sunny day for it , soil was good as were participants wont be naming all the tractors that were there but the McCormick-International B series was out in force as were the usual TE-20's & 35's, 35X's & the odd few 100 series tractors. What was conspicuous by their absence was the attendance of the usual ford contingency , a dexta, couple of fordson power majors & ford 3600, of course there were a few more of the more modern of the marque, but i didn't see any forson standard's or E27N's , no field marshals & only the one red DB ! but i'm sure you'll find what you like in the pictures the pics are not of tractor makes bunched up in groups , mf , international then fords these are posted as i saw them enjoy.............
  19. seen ammonia applied on a few farms down here mart , with 3 different techniques. i do know the wrapped bales being injected as i've done the wrapping , but not seen it done actually ibjected so some pics of that would be great. also knew of a contractor that had an additive barrell & dribble bar on the baler for a direct application . & last of which i did used to help with was , a contractor with a straw chopper application system , i used to load the bales onto a trailed conveyor that used to feed a straw chopper , where the ammonia was applied & blown to the back of a shed , as when it was chopped it was fed with a diet feeder which made it easier for the cows to eat & less waste as well
