We're milking about 80 with only 6 in the parlour at any one time.
-
apparently it was the bales, getting too hot inside but im still not sure about that \
Was it hay or straw in the barn. Ive heard of hay heating up so much that it catches fire.

You milk cows at 03:30 in the morning?
Forgive my ignorance, but is this normal for the dairy farmer?
Why are the cows not sleeping?!
What times do you milk the cows? (2 or 3 times a day?)
If its 03:30 now, is it 04:30 in the summer?
Do you ever sleep?
1. Well, not starting at 3:30 but get up to get them ready and the parlour ready so closer to 4 when we do start.
2. No idea.
3. Again, no idea.
4. Twice a day. Once in the morning and again in the afternoon, starting about 3.
5. Not quite that late but later than in the winter as they have to be rounded up from the field.
6. Yes.
Time for a new parlour I would say if you have to start at that time
Ive been saying that for 17 years

Only started milking at 7 this morning instead of half 3 due to there being no water since about 5 last night. Very angry cows and 1 slightly damaged water tank to deal with today.

Its Chris Awdrys combine, Tim Farthings header and its just up the road from Lacock. The ground is some of Lackhams, but the grain was going back to Farthings yard to save moving the crimper for the two fields of maize the college had. It all got weighed in and the college will just take loads out during the winter until they have had there lot.

I would call that a cattle crush not a bull pen, my definition of a bull pen is a shed where you keep the bull when he's not in with the cows
Same. I guess this is the sort of thing you were thinking of Pat?

Mine was fine with nothing on but when you put the heavier of the grabs on it might be needed if its going into a display.

Bit of an update with some pictures from the chippenham ploughing match. Many thanks to my friend Sam who managed to take some pictures in between his ploughing and also for letting me post them up here. I should be able to get some more somewhen from my college tutor.

I just noticed that on the farmmodels website the blue 6640's and the yellow 5640's have been reduced again to £35.00, but under that there is a line saying:"stock reduction sale - to re invest in future models".

Well done on your win Tommy. Is that your first try at competition ploughing And any pictures of your tractor and plough
Congratulations Tommy, very fine work you've achieved there. As Bill mentioned, fascinated to know what type of tractor and plough you were using.
Cheers Bill and David. It was my first attempt at competition ploughing and I only did my first bit of normal ploughing earlier this year. Sorry, no pictures of the tractor and plough but I used our NH TH155 and a borrowed Kuhn 5 furrow plough.

If you could...

I think it would have to be the 2 John Deere 9400T's joined together that were in the latest classic tractor, pulling a 65 meter drill.
