  1. So maintaining my spending spree this month on models one of these just turned up. Mine is number 338/600. I have several pmc/ploegers people have made over the years and this is definitely worth buying. One warning I had to super glue a fair few things back on it straight out the box, but a nice model and heavy.

So finally took the plunge as there are only 500 of the grimme receivers and must say a little disappointed. I love it as I wanted it but slightly disappointed. Firstly it was packed in the box so tightly that the main strut across the machine has bowed and I darent bend it back as I think it would snap. Then when out of the box the yellow tarp on the back was also creased and doesnt fit well. And the final disappointment was the fact it feels more like a warhammer model than the farm models I've become accustomed to in the past few years it weighs nothing. Great model if you were paying 50 quid for it. But unless your mad on spud stuff, it's a little overpriced for the model and think others on here could have done better custom job. There are only 500 but I wouldnt go rushing for one compared to other models you could get for the money involved.
  3. Quick comment regarding new equipment.... There are so many tax incentives currently to try to aid the economy and the farmers are taking advantage and spending money.. If you go looking online a second hand MF 5455 of say 3 years will cost you £24,000. A new one is £32,000... Would you spend the £8k difference for the warrantee and no hours on the clock... The price of second hand tractors is being propped up by export and people paying stupid money for them. You’ll also find that most of the new equipment is larger arable farmers and equipment generally remains looking good with age due to plastic body shells. As was previously said farmers are rich.... asset rich, cash poor. I’m a surveyor, my father owns a farm and we worked out his take home less than mine. On paper he is worth several figures opposed to me who’s constantly in debt... How many builders do you see in nice vans, I know all the contractors who work for me drive vans less than 5 years old, and that’s because they spend ages in their van put their tools in it, live out of it etc and a nice van which doesn’t break down is worth the money. A farmer is the same, why sit in an old banger and make life hard when you can spend money and make your life a little more comfortable (spending 16 hours a day in a machine at times). I disagree with how the French go about it, but they are passionate about things. Globally there are thousands of sows being got rid of because farmers are losing too much money. Sooner or later it is going to be us, the general public who suffer, when there suddenly is a shortage of pork and the price goes up in the shops because the super markets cant source it from abroad cheaply, who’s to blame? The public will be shouting and blaming the farmers for not saying there were issues, I suppose at least the French are aggressively vocal about it…
  4. Depends on what you want the CAD course for... If you want to draw 2D things, the best thing to do would be get a book and play with CAD using the offset tools etc. £200 seems cheap for the course tbh. If you want a job drawing in say the construction industry (no jobs at moment really) having a course wont get you an interview a portfolio showing what you can draw will.... I would imagine this would be the same in any industry.
  5. I know people with sets of 5 but they own land in big blocks. Sets of 5 are usually 10m wide but gang rolls arent easy to take down the road so people tend to go with smaller folding sets... If you have 500 acres or so in one big block you could use them quite happily...
  6. Think everyone is missing the actual shocking part of the advert and that is the father is actually a proper £$£% he give the child the job and when he falls over he doesnt get out to help him up he just looks disapointed... I know at the end of the day he says he did well, but that poor kid would think up till that point that he was useless... The adverts good, just felt sorry for the boys lack of praise, his only about 10 so would pick up on his dads disapointed looks.
  7. Give the Case dealers in Spalding Lincs a ring, they have them sat in their yard, else the dealer in Framlingham Suffolk had them sat in their yard the other week, so may have a catalogue?

  9. Dont know... Its an endurance turbine on the 36m mast and thats all I've really asked about it.. for some reason they rate them at 50kw but they will do upto about 80.
  10. The Turbine is an endurance (think its american) http://www.endurancewindpower.co.uk/e3120.html. He originally was going with Bowler energy but now has actually gone with Hallmark Tractor.. It all came down to the way in which they approached the planning side. I deal with alot of planning applications for properties and they are a pain in the bum, but these people do the application then have a specalist pull it apart, so that when it goes in they have all the bits likely to be asked for. This means that they cant prolong the decision as the info is already provided. This should mean the application is in and approved before too many people have a chance to object. Its in for planning so we will see. May end up wth a 24m pole rather than 36 but we should get one. Think they are about £280k installed.
  11. Anyone who thinks they are a waste of money currently has brought into the propaganda by anti wind campaigners. Currently over the lifetime of the turbine if you put the turbine in the correct place ie in a space on its own and not on or near a building etc you will pay for the turbine over the course of its life. At present the subsidies make it very attractive because you get paid stupid amounts to produce green energy. Without subsidies the turbine still would pay for itself within the 20years definitely but with subsidies the time frame is drastically reduced. The subsidy is index linked. You sign up for 20 years and you will definitely make your cash back.. The fact it is costing everyone else because the government has signed up to renewable targets which are unachievable is just tough on those who cant get them.. If you could get one and it would pay there's no doubt you would..
  12. If you want a real one your more than welcome to come take some of ours. My uncle seems to collect the booming things. His got a 155, 135, 120, 90, 2No 70's and a 55.. Give me a rubber track anyday...
  13. My dad's just put in for one its only going to be 80kw output (rated at 50kw) but we are trying for the 36m mast with the 9m blades so hopefully will get it may have to settle for 24m though.... If you are interested in them ask the suppliers and they will take you round some sites to listen.. My mum had to go and stand by one and agree to it prior to the order being placed. There are a lot of different turbines and make sure you research them first. The quietest ones are the ones which spin the other way, by they i mean the air is not forced into the pole, but sucked from the pole direction. Most noise comes from the gearbox and the sound of the air hitting the mast.
  14. I drove past Manns last week and they have them in stock at Saxham... I didnt post this post the other day as it was Martyn who was selling the item and wanted him to get a good price, but if any of you want another ring them up and I think they will post them to you.. I only went in there to buy a 770... I was shocked how cheap they were.
  15. I want to stay positive in this topic because the farming industry needs young blood, its refreshing for younger people to be interested and want to do it.. the average age of a farmer is 65!! I'm only 27 and coming from a farming family I should probably be in it, but I'm money driven so was put off. But what ever you do dont go to another farm or write on your CV and say you drive the telehandler/loader I cant remember how old you have to be to do it, but you need a ticket unless you own the thing to be covered by insurance. I've gotta do a track laying test to drive the challenger we have just got at home, else i wouldnt dare take it down the road. Remember what you are and arent allowed to do. Good luck with your boss, but remember your under 18. I wasnt taken seriously with my job till 25 and as the average age is 65 you can see there are many more experienced people out there and there is currently high unemployment for the under 25s.. But at least your trying oh and seriously read the CV topic... Rob
