  1. its alot of straw to deal with, the best way ive seen is to put pigs on the field they love it
  2. the 52nd Doe show will be on 7th,8th,9th February this year at Ulting, Maldon. Ive never been to this before so im making the effort and will be going on the 7th cant wait, it seems a very good show from what ive heard.
  3. Lamma show 18th&19th January at Newark. I will be going on the 18th, missed out last year so cant wait
  4. bit of time, paint and an eye for detail works wonders good job
  5. whenever i venture into a supermarket i look at the price of whiskey and it seems to be getting cheaper, with alot of offers on the quality malts which is great news for me but i cant help thinking it may have a knock on effect especially with the smaller distilleris
  6. that looks fantastic, would be great if Weise made a demount sprayer for it
  7. for me it would be the TW30 it was a big tractor in its day and stood out from everything else.
  8. i think Tris sums it up well, alot is down to personal choice what maybe a classic in some peoples eyes doesnt have the same effect with me. When a tractor becomes a Classic is a difficult one? i suppose not long after production of a model ends.
  9. I did mine 23 years ago, glad i did it then its fairly pricey now and i would imagine its changed a fair bit. Using the farms sprayer its a good idea to know the machine inside out. The only other advice i can give is take it in your stride, keep calm and rocket science it ain't although some would have you think it is, enjoy and good luck
  10. enjoyed reading CT recently after a break but wish the print would stay on the pages

    ROS 2011

i saw the Grimme at a machinery dealers earlier today, what a cracking model. I hope ROS keep producing this sort of quality.
  12. ive always admired Agrifac machinery, As for the weight of SP sprayers its how the weight is distributed across axles, wheels that is important.
  13. having driven Muir Hills the turning circle was better than that of the County due to the drive shaftfor the front axle being down the centre of the tractor, unlike County which was to the side. equal sized wheel tractors have better traction weight is distributed over both axles, and also reduced compaction. The cost and manouverability of equal sized 4wd tractors was there downfall although i never had a problem turning the Muir Hill around. With modern 4 wheel steering systems im surprised more manufacturers havent adopted equal wheel 4wds, so it is probably down to cost. It is interesting that Fendt have larger diameter front wheels than other manufacturers.
  14. ive no experience with Kubota tractors however the engines are brilliant and very economical and so quiet.
  15. On Fastracs the falling sales figures speak for themselves On skilled farm labour, well as long as the job gets done in a fashion seems to be thinking of modern farming its all about profit. On cows fascinating even more so when you had to chain em up prior to milking.
  16. a farm i used to work on ran two identical Manitou telehandlers, the one on the arable/beef unit had done treble the hours of the one assigned to the dairy unit and everything worked ok and nothing wrong with it. Im trying to say a machine with 2000 hard hours can be in a worse state than a 6000hr machine, so i really cant guess.
  17. fully agree with the Tims comments on the Holstein, i would say the same applies to most of the continental beef breeds. I remember my time rearing calves in the 80s and my fathers own experience lim x calves were nothing but trouble from calving onwards. Angus, Hereford, Longhorn, Sussex etc you didnt have to worry about them, they were born fighters. I do wonder whether the extra rewards/money from continental breeds is worth it? with all the extra cost and work involved.
  18. most of the native British breeds will over winter outside perfectly ok. The main thing is a good hedge to shelter from the wind, decent free draining ground and dont overstock.
  19. those wires are terrible things, they should be outlawed. Bring back the key that was used years ago.
