  1. Well were do i start i first cleaned down a cylinder head for an david brown 850 then later i took the sump of a DB 1200 (the 21 one ever built) to see if the crank shaft was still standard then i prepared it for spliting the next day,

Then i fitted out tractor mover on to a 1490 for pulling out the 1200 after that i went home and just this 5 minutes ago i seen for the first time ever live bats in my father shed what a day. ;)

  2. Hello Rich.

The modern DBs 90s and 94s are alot different the older tractors use drum brakes crash gearboxes and so on the syncromesh gearbox came out in 1972 when the 90s came out they were the most modern looking machines around and the new models had new features such as disc brakes the luxury of the secura cab new operating design features increases in horse power the new 6 cylinders came out in 1980 as well with the first been the 1690 new casting differences ect.. ect.. you would have to say get a 1210 and a 1490 and compare the two to each other

The 1210 is 72 horse power the 1490 is 83 the 1490 has a beffed up engine compared to the 1210 with the turbo comes a bigger crank shaft turbo charged pistons valves ect..

So the simple answer is there alot different.

    Regards

    DB1410 ;)

  3. Ok its very smooth to change up in and down in the 1212/1412 but in the bigger 6 cylinders it can be a bit jumpy. But it was way ahead of its time back in 1972 and it one several awards for its design unlike fords selecto speed which was a total dezaster.David brown had made a fully atomatic gearbox back in the 60s but didnt go ahead with it because farmers were not going to pay the extra money for such

    a sufisticated gearbox.

Ive never drove a dyna shift Massey so i must get a spin out of one and see what there like.

A lot of people dont relize all the great invensions DB made.

    Regards

    The DB fanatic. ;)

  4. Well Mine would have to be the David brown 1210 1410 1212 1412.Not because im a true DB fan but because they are my favorite to drive Why?

Well i have drove several makes including fords masseys ursus ect..My impresions of fords are simple but crued machines Masseys good tractors but not much traction Ursus nuf siad.Ha!

My first drive out of a Hydra shift David Brown was a Mk1 Q cabed 1212 the tractor had bad brake cylinders so not much brakes and the clutch was set wrong and needed to be adjusted so it had to be pumped 3 times to get the tractor to stop ect..

But the hydra shift was beatifull to use when on the road with the 3 clutch less gear changes with 12F 4R gears and the Hydra static steering was also great! The same goes for the 1412 with the added turbine whisle what a great sound.

The 1210 and 1410 came with a 12F 4R syncromesh gearbox with a smooth gear change between 2nd and 3rd like a car you can also take of in first with a smooth change up through the gears.

I love any tipe of 12 and 14s DBs and the same goes for any other DB but not so much for the VAK1 to the crop master. ;)
