malcy_p
Another Grand Prix special - started off as something to keep my hands busy whilst watching the Belgium GP yesterday. The tracks are off a Case 535, modified and shortened to look more like the Claas Terra Tracs. These are mounted to side panels and a subframe which is attached to the combine only by the Siku front axle bracket, so these TTs can be removed and put on another combine if needs be. Then just a case of a bit of paint and making the waterslide transfers and job done!

dangray21
Another great conversion by Mr Claas himself. is the Header on the TT slightly different to the siku version aswell?
Deere-est
King Malcy of Lexionshire! What have you done?! That looks awesome and what a clever use for tracks, one STX should do two TT's then right?
malcy_p
Indeed - a two for one offer I just couldn't refuse...! The 535 is now sitting on Siku wheels - not quiet right but close enough for me!
malcy_p
Another great conversion by Mr Claas himself. is the Header on the TT slightly different to the siku version aswell? Hi Dan! I took my Dremmel to the Siku header that's on the 600 on wheels; it might not be suitable for a 3 year old to play with but a lot of the extraneous plastic has been cut away. I also modified the clunky Laser Pilot mountings and covered up the reel drive cog to hide the teeth away too. The header on the 600TT is a 40ft V1200 taken from a Norscott Cat Lexion and repainted - have a look at... http://www.farmtoysforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=28036.15 /malc. catkom3
Hi Malcy, that's one nice looking Terra Trac, but what did you use to rejoin the tracks after you shortened them ??? Regards Joe.
malcy_p
Hi Malcy, that's one nice looking Terra Trac, but what did you use to rejoin the tracks after you shortened them ??? Regards Joe. Ah-ha... yes, that took a little thought as I didn't want to mess them up! However, I cut out a 10mm chunk from each side with a scalpel held at an angle, then used superglue (Pacer Zap-a-gap cynoacrylate to be precise) and held them together for 30 seconds and hoped. Worked surprisingly well, and the tracks still rotate well if you push the combine along - whilst making combining noises, obviously! I cut the tracks like this.... __________ ____________ _________/ /____________ .... as it gave a bigger surface area for the glue to bond. Also I cut the tracks so that the chevrons join up and help to hide the join.
catkom3
Precision engineering at it's best, thanks for that Malcy,I have a wee job comeing up that needs a bit of track alteration,I was thinking bike puncture repair kits, but your way might be better,is it difficult to get a straight line and get both angles the same Regards Joe. malcy_p
I used a brand new scalpel blade and a steel rule. First off I chopped the tracks with scissors to get them flat, then used my skill and judgement (aka pot luck and blind faith!) to make the final cuts. The tricky bit was judging how tight to make the tracks - tight looks good but would they stretch without breaking to go over the wheels...? Luckily they did! I too thought rubber glue from a puncture repair kit, but this Zap-a-gap stuff (any decent model shop will stock it) just sticks everything to anything... Metal, rubber, plastic, human flesh - you name it! malcy_p
Well I wouldn't go that far, but close enough I guess! Not overly happy with the main wheels as the real things are convex and I couldn't think of anything I had that was the right size/shape. I did however modify the STX track's wheels in that Case have 3 idler wheels whereas Claas have just the two smaller wheels between the main big ones. Also the Case tracks are a little too wide, but I'll live with that!

Deere-est
I think I will try this when I get back to the models. It looks great and definately worth the sacrifice of an STX. Would like the header too but. ... got to stop somewhere
