Lord Ferguson
Well... it was with some excitement that I picked up an MF590 4wd from my local dealers last week. I have to say... having restled with the STUPID screws that UH choose to use to hold this model down (they have a triangular head.. so you have to find something to jam in them that fits) when I finally released it from the (pretty poor... but functional) plastic box and display plinth I am HUGELY impressed with this model. Don't get me wrong... the packaging method that UH seem to have adopted with this range of models is great... I am sure it eliminates damage... but I don't think many of us collectors will be using the plastic plinth the models are displayed on.. they are... in my opnion a tad tacky. Anway... that's one negative... in actual fact.. that's all the negatives I have... and on the basis that they are not about the actual model in question I guess they are not that important in the grand scheme of things... So... on to the model
Lord Ferguson
The first thing you notice when you first take hold of the model is the weight... this is a heavy piece for it's size... giving the impression it's a well made and substantial item. The level of detail UH have achieved with this model can only be described as very impressive... remember that you are looking at a model that's only (approx.) 10cm long ! Even the steps have a strong and robust feel to them - you don't need to handle this model as carefully (perhaps) as some of the other precision models in the UH range. Engine detail is also high... once again for a model of this size...
Lord Ferguson
The backend seems to be equally as well detailed... I also think they have achieved a spot on colour match for this tractor.. which at this time (1981-2) would have been MF light grey, super red and silver mist.. Cab detaling is also good with a well glazed cab and nice interior details...
Lord Ferguson
the bodywork and decalling is superb and I really can't fault that either... you could argue that some of the painting could be improved upon... but, in my opinion, for a model of it's size I think it's been finished really well... so I'm not about to moan about that either... Lord Ferguson
I've just noticed that even the sidelights/indicators have been picked out in paint... and believe me they are very small here is one final view of the rear of the model... and a picture of the real thing to compare the model with... In short... I am hugely impressed with this model.. I think it would be more than worthy of a 10/10 if it were not for the screws used in the packaging... so I think it would be fair to award this model with a very well deserved 9.5/10 If the level of detail on this 1:43 scale version is anything to go by then all I can say is roll on the 1:32 scale version... oh... and fingers crossed for a 1:16 scale version too ! With my 'nerds hat' on.. I reckon this model was measured at Beauvais where they have a very early early red cabbed version in the heritage centre... you can tell that by the exhaust exiting from the top of the bonnet and not via the side as with all the red cabs I have seen in the past well done UH... keep up the good work ! Mike R
Thanks for this so the 1/32 version should be as good or even better them.
