Casting

I was looking to cast some cabs and bonnets myself from resin and was wondering how excatly to do it

I casted and still do a bit i never found it simple as there was no one to tell me the tips ,you greatest night mare will be air bubbels ! i used plenty of little wooden sticks like tooth picks to leave air holes in the moulds 

the way i learnt to cast was trial and error  \

i did up to 40 tankers in my time and all the parts for them

num 1. you will need rubber to make the moulds its not cheep to make one tanker mould it cost me over £100 and only does a while

num 2. when the moulds are made you pour resin into the moulds mix it two equal parts dont take your time !! the first time i mixed it set up my mould grabed the jug and tried to pour it and it was solid you get about 3mins with it so be quick hears the stuff i used it was the g27 one from what i can remember

for various resin's etc,casting is fairly  easy,but NEVER mix to much CATALYST into the resin,it WILL SELF IGNITE,due to the fact it is Organic Peroxide,or what Hitler used to power his V Rocket's,and the best way to remove air bubbles is to use a vacuum chamber,no I don't have one either

im now getting my casting done with a professional he says that the only way is to have a vacume chamber for the liquid rubber and then a high pressure chamber for  the liquid resin in the moulds the hight pressure forces the air out of the moulds he says and there perfect

well first get your part i dont know what it is so you will have to find out what way to make a mould around it i usually use lego blacks to make a box for the rubber mould pour , suspend the part in the compartment made from Lego then pour the liquid rubber aroung it make sure you have thought of a way of getting the part out of the mould you can make slits in the moulds when cured    then just pour

casting can be a real pig at times, i do my own bits from time to time, and for myself they were fine, i was happy to fill and sort defects like air bubbles, no matter what i tried ,you wont get rid of them unless you use a vacume chamber and pressure insterter like pro sellers use, hence why most main sellers send all there parts away for batchs to be made, a average mould doesnt last that long really either, so be aware of that, if you plan to do it your self, all the bending of it to get parts out soon streches and splits the rubber moulds
