Cheers for the comments, the blue rope is embroidery thread from hobby craft. I think it was around £1 for a bundle and it is quite long so fairly good value. Also they sell 3mm ribbon which is great for straps and slings. :)

Cheers, the farm gets through quite alot of straw a year. What with calving two times per year and lambing as well as fattening cattle and lambs indoors, plus over wintering cattle in open yards on the hill and the last few year straw has been used along side kale as a supplement. :)

The farm don't grow any cereals of there own, however in the last few years they have started to plant kale. All of the straw is bought off the neighbours Hill Top Farm, the two farms also have the arrangement that if a field being run by Moss Hill needs reseeding Hill Top will plant a crop in it for a year. Likewise some of Hill Top rotations involves planting grass or clover so Moss hill will have the grazing etc. This works well and has done for quite a few years now, by having this arrangement it also guarantees straw each year. :)

Anyway onto some pictures, each year the farm tries to bale a few hundred small bales for the lambing pens etc. so the old bamfords baler get dragged out.

Yeah some more blokes would be useful sometimes, as it was only Tom, James and Shawn on all day as Mark was looking after the cattle and sheep. Because of the lack of man power they ended up going on late into the night, as all the bales had to be cleared as they have to move on the the next group of fields today.

It doesn't help that picking up the bales is a two man job.

The best way to speed up the process is to go round with an old buckrake on the back of the 362 and leave piles of around ten bales in a pile so that it is quicker to load with the jcb.

They finished the third and last load around 11:30 pm

Mark then came out with the land rover to escort them back as the trailer has no lights and nether does the 362.
