robertw1
Once those fields where cleared it was on to the ones over the hill, had a good load on the neighbours trailer that the farm had borrowed.
robertw1
The four wheel trailer was put behind the jcb on the longer runs as it is a bit less weight on the back end. Unloading back at the yard.
robertw1
Stacking them in the shed. Not a bad days work, the shed is full up now so the next to be filled will be the one on the hill.

Old Ford
great work , the blue rope you have used looks really good. where did you get it from.?
robertw1
Cheers for the comments, the blue rope is embroidery thread from hobby craft. I think it was around £1 for a bundle and it is quite long so fairly good value. Also they sell 3mm ribbon which is great for straps and slings. Light Land
Plenty of bales to keep you going over the winter, nice update.
robertw1
Cheers, the farm gets through quite alot of straw a year. What with calving two times per year and lambing as well as fattening cattle and lambs indoors, plus over wintering cattle in open yards on the hill and the last few year straw has been used along side kale as a supplement. Light Land
Do you have any cereals or just buy it off cropping farmers? again nice layout
Oakley Farms
Great harvest action, keep it up
robertw1
The farm don't grow any cereals of there own, however in the last few years they have started to plant kale. All of the straw is bought off the neighbours Hill Top Farm, the two farms also have the arrangement that if a field being run by Moss Hill needs reseeding Hill Top will plant a crop in it for a year. Likewise some of Hill Top rotations involves planting grass or clover so Moss hill will have the grazing etc. This works well and has done for quite a few years now, by having this arrangement it also guarantees straw each year. Anyway onto some pictures, each year the farm tries to bale a few hundred small bales for the lambing pens etc. so the old bamfords baler get dragged out. robertw1
It still earns its keep considering it is well past retirement. Unfortunately the farm don't own a bale sledge so all the bales have to be picked up by hand.
robertw1
The MF 5455 had a quiet day parked up most of the time.
tractorboyjules1977
looks like you need some extra labour !!!!!! great pics and story
robertw1
Yeah some more blokes would be useful sometimes, as it was only Tom, James and Shawn on all day as Mark was looking after the cattle and sheep. Because of the lack of man power they ended up going on late into the night, as all the bales had to be cleared as they have to move on the the next group of fields today. It doesn't help that picking up the bales is a two man job.
robertw1
The best way to speed up the process is to go round with an old buckrake on the back of the 362 and leave piles of around ten bales in a pile so that it is quicker to load with the jcb. They finished the third and last load around 11:30 pm Mark then came out with the land rover to escort them back as the trailer has no lights and nether does the 362.
