Paul Palmer
having recieved my massey 3080 yesterday from barry (udimore),thanks barry, and having a quick lookover it,and watching topics on here,i will be spraying the chassis charcoal grey, ive allready shortened the height of the beacon, rear wheels if i can get a pair of claas /renault 836 wheels, but the front wheels and tyres will be staying, the front wheels look correct to me,and allthough i was one of many who complained about the front skinny tyres, they are infact correct, lord ferguson kindly scanned me a mf 3000 brochure and i checked the front tyre size,i then converted these measurements to 1/32 scale and they are accurate, maybe front mudguards, will have to see if the mudguards will look a bit silly with the skinny front tyres, also get a driver in the cab, wheni was in wales on holiday a couple of years ago i went to a massey dealer there and they had 2 3095,s in there yard and they were on skinny front tyres, and lastly i have a massey colour card, and it says that the wheels should be NEW SILVER MIST, but having a chat with johny about his superb 3080 convo his wheels look a very different colour to NEW SILVER MIST,so i have pm'ed johny about that, anyway some pictures hopefully at the weekend, ive got to go and pick up some charcoal grey spray paint from my massey dealer, the pictures are of the 2 3095,s on the mf dealers yard in wales, just to show the skinny front tyres Edited March 14, 2012 by paulali
Tractorman810
just ask matey at snows paul, there two cans of silver mist, but so far the ones i have bought have always been the older one and they are usally on the shelf infront of the counter ,and the newer has always been a behind the counter tin
Paul Palmer
he was the guy who gave me the colour card sean, plus he is very knowlegable, the colour is listed as NEW SILVER MIST,but johnys colour on his 3080 convo looks very different to that, johny messaged me and said that he used wheel white of MF for the 3000´s serie´s. Not silver mist he used the paint of Sparex 3000 serie´s. Edited March 14, 2012 by paulali
Paul Palmer
a question to other conversion people,do i need to take the bonnet off so i can remove the cab,i see there are 2 screws above the rear tyres to remove the cab
Paul Palmer
couple more pics of the 3080 on skinny front tyres, there are plenty of 3080's out there with these skinny tyres so thats what i will be going with
Johny mf
The bonnet need to be lifted of to get the final screw out of the cab just for the dashboard. The cabplatform is screwed under the chair on the chasis Edited March 14, 2012 by Johny mf

jdc
I've used new silver mist on my 1:1 3065 and found it to be a match on cab and wheels. I agree with your comments on wheel sizes. My 3085 with a different (74") track setting to the model. Some bonnets can be a pain to get off!
Paul Palmer
thanks for the info john,i didnt think the colour card could be wrong,it might be the light when johny took his pictures, the bonnet took quite a lot of gentle persuasion to come off, what a very tidy 3085 john ,credit to you
DMarshallModels
Can you not get the hubs of Paul? just push a wee screw driver on them and they should pop of. Looking well so far.
Paul Palmer
i just hadnt took them off before the photo, there off allright dm,heres the chassis sprayed charcoal grey,my boss is on a weeks holiday abroad so i took a diversion to my job today via my massey dealer to pick up the paint,no new silvermist,so ordered that as well, just got to spray the front hubs, will do that at work tomorrow Edited March 15, 2012 by paulali
Paul Palmer
good old cotton buds, glued to the inside of the hubs ,which allows me to spray the hubs easily, when sprayed just tap off the cotton buds,as i said spraying these at work tomorrow, then just the rear wheel centres to paint, then all charcoal grey finished with Edited March 15, 2012 by paulali

Paul Palmer
start of putting the 3080 back together, not a good start,i lost the right hand armrest putting the seat back in,so a bit of plastruct, bit of trimming and some black paint, added driver, all the little bits back on the chassis, cab and bonnet back on and there you go,just waiting for the new silver mist paint to come in for the wheels via my mf local dealer, wont be in until tuesday, but i have trimmed down some siku mf 5455 rear wheels and using the existing 3080 tyres,i will see what this will look like,as i said before at the start of the topic, the front wheels and tyres are staying as they came with the model, also got to add a roof aerial, will post some pictures up later of the siku 5455 rear wheels and tomorrow will post some better pictures of the 3080,a bit to dark for decent pictures really

Paul Palmer
couple of pictures ,first one is of the standard wheel that comes with the model, and the second is the converted siku mf 5455 rear wheel, still to be sprayed in NEW SILVER MIST,what do you think of the siku option? i forgot to say that the rear tyres are the ones that came with the model Edited March 16, 2012 by paulali
Johny mf
Looking good Paul. The colour on the photo's of my 3080 are just as they are in real life. I am shure i didnt use New Silvermist. But i think you need to spray them the way you want to. I had a small discussion with a lad from the Dutch MF importer about paints. He said they went to a painter, for the use of paint and with one can paint the painter sprayed 6 difirent colours! So when are you doÃng it right? jack_c
Looking good Paul! Just a quick question, do you ever get any bother with paints reacting or do you clean them completely off? Making a Massey Ferguson 4255 sloped nose based on a Universal Hobbies chassis and need to paint the chassis but worried that the new paint will react with the original paint,
