FORD 7700 Convo

Recommended Posts

Started this Ford 7700 about 2 weeks ago & finished it this evening. I used a Britains Ford 7600 as a base model for this convo.

No better tractor to use considering the 7600 & 7700 were both  much the same mechanically . Both tractors used the same 4cyl  97 HP engine, but the 7700 had 14 inches of a longer wheelbase and had a straddle cab which sat higher & a different style bonnet .

I based the model on the tractor featured on the cover of the  Ford 7700 brochure, which was identical to the one used by a local contractor that cut our silage with a Tarrup double chop back the mid 80's.

I raised the cab up a wee bit to allow for the bigger rubber wrapping the rear rims which came off a Britains 6600 Q cab that had went under the knife for a 4600 convo a while back . The tyres on the rear are Britains Goodyear tyres from an old MF 2680 which were a perfect fit around these Ford 6600 rims.  The front axel has been moved forward. Also raised the front tomestone & used a Britains Ford 7710 bonnet & added headlights & new decals. Altered the cab interior also .

For all those that don't master the conversion work as well I hope Britains will do some models out of the 700 range soon! You make it seem very straightforward but I wouldn't dare doing one! Lovely work and model Justin.

Again thanks guys for the comments. ;)

A 7710 could be done alright using the same concept . Might only change the rears to UH Ford 7810 rims for a 7710. A 6700 & 6710 could also be done in 2wd or 4wd. One thing about convo is every part used was BRITAINS & nothing else bar the decal which Henry Walker done for me. . Henrys decals are always very sharp & accurate. I was actually going to use an old Britains 7710 ,but that tractor is really a 6cyl  TW-20 representation that was under scaled alittle, hince the engine subframe on its casting which the 4cyl Fords never had. So a new Britains 7600 ticked all the boxes with alittle tweaking I tought. The 7600 had everything going for it. Front axel, cab, engine representation, exsaust stack ,high air filter & the rear rims.

Looking good!  It looks like the front axle is one with steering unlike the 7600 axle, what/where did you get it from?

The front axel came from the newer Britains 7A2 Q-cab 7600. The whole tractor was convod from the newer Britains 7600 really.

I see, hadn't realised there were 2 different ones.  Well grand job anyway!

Cracking conversion looks great . Great video too no better sound than a ford baling , the little puff of smoke every time the ram plunges in the chamber . Thank you for posting

Cheers again guys & thanks. ;)  I can still remember the  sound off the 7700 that the our silage contractor used years ago to cut our silage. To hear it fire up the Taruup double chop was something else. Big puff of black smoke & it could be heard roaring all around the country side.  His fleet also included a  Fritzmeir cab Ford 6600 & a 5000 for  carting in the grass . Our own 4000 on the buckrake & our 4600 helping out with the carting for the long distance draw to the pit . Those were the days back the 80's.
