An Interested Spectator
Looking at converting the old Britain's PZ style hay bob to run on a front linkage. On the rear will be the MF 520v round baler. The question is in the 'real world' what size of hp tractor would you need to run this combination comfortably, without using a bigger tractor than needed ? In the real world the idea would be to row up and bale thinner 2nd or 3rd cuts in one pass. Cheers Adie
jack_c
Thinking about 120-130hp? Surely that would handle that set up more than easily?
Niels
It won't work i'm afraid (Haybob will dig in to much unless your fields are perfectly flat). But I'd say 120 hp is indeed sufficient. Here is the same idea in action on a front loader: http://www.fastline.com/v100/Fransgard-TI-6000FL-EDNEY-DISTRIBUTING-CO,-INC-Lakeville-MN-equipment-detail-18fdaf2a-9315-458f-a666-07491b86ea19.aspx
An Interested Spectator
Guys, thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Niels, Had not considered it digging in, you do see the odd picture of front mounted twin wheel rakes (as in the example you gave), admittedly not the PZ style hay bob which is I guess the reason why. What would you suggest would be an alterative, maybe the acrobat style wheel rake with two or three wheels on either side ?

Acrobat rakes were originally offered front mounted as well since the days of the grey Fergie. You can still get wheel rakes, like the Elho that Erik posted. Have a search on the interweb!
