My Massey and Peat/ Bog collection so far

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Thank you for having me!

I have just joined and want to show some of what I have, I am a Massey Ferguson fan and always have been, from the old 3 cylinders and up, I have driven a lot on 35's and the 2000 series harvesting peat.

I have tried to collect and create tractors suitable for bog/ peat work and some trailers and machines to go along with them.

I have a number of Universal Hobbies Massey from a 240 up to a 8737, I have a UH Valtra S and a Replicagri Fiat Agri

I have used some Quad track rubber tracks and some 20mm Siku wheels to get the tracks I wanted on a trailer, the yellow one I bought used at a model show, removed the hubs and wheels and then using brass square section and brass rod, I got the tracks fit.

The white trailer is something i drew up on Solidworks and then got 3D printed, it is currently painted and I need to fit the tracks and wheels properly to get it finished.

The Difco Turf Hopper is from DM Farm models.

Anyone else like Bog/ Peat machinery ?

Anthony

Welcome Anthony, Nice to see a bit of something a little different, i've a good mate who worked on the Moss on the Scottish borders near Gretna for 15 years until it closed, theres some photo's on my laptop somewhere of the gear he drove, will see if i can find them ;)

Look forward to seeing more of your collection even though i'm not a big Massey Fan, the Peat gear is interesting

Thank you!

Yes, the peat gear is interesting, I spent years working on a bog harvesting it, mostly with hoovers, in later years that company started lifting it with a different method, I am working on drawing a harvester in Solidworks to get printed, I have a lot of plans but not a lot of time!

Hello Anthony, welcome along. As Paul has said, it's nice to see something a little different, we certainly don't see any of that kind of gear up our way! Lovely collection of models, that 3D printed trailer looks very smart, did you print it yourself? Looking forward to seeing more of your collection.

Fascinated by peat gear (the hoovers look like something out of a sci-fi) and would love to make some models of them, it's just photos and details are difficult to come across, and with no understanding of how the machines work they're rather vital to an accurate model. Same with some of the forestry vehicles used in bog reclamation, fascinating stuff, but not a lot of info about.

Looks like you've got some very interesting bits in your collection!

Thank you all, very happy that I joined, yes the peat gear is unique, I need to check boxes of old things and see have I any photos of the machines I used to use, it's been about 20 or more years ago!

I used a 3D printing service for the Trailer, I just sent 4 separate files, which were drawbar, chassis, trailer body and tailboard and the company send you a quote for the whole Lot, I would like to have my own 3D printer but I think for fine detail and a smooth finish I would need to invest in a really good one, for now I am happy to use the online service.

I have some links/ YouTube videos I can post up from companies that specialise in peat machinery, from bog clearing to peat lifting if anyone wants a look?

I grew up on a small farm but surrounded by bogs so there was always plenty of jobs and things to be seen on the bog!
