Meng 1/35 pick up truck

Recommended Posts

Due to the dearth of pick ups in 1/32 I thought  I'd build the Meng kit up and see whether it will stand with 1/32 farm equipment or just look wrong. So here we go, unboxing & out to the shed for a warm spraying session. Used Tamiya fine grey primer followed by Tamiya AS-8 Navy Blue (US Navy). Semi matt , didn't want an over bright finish.

A few update shots, chassis quite a fiddle to do, scale wise still not sure. Would get away with it in a diorama maybe if put on a slight bank, easier to judge once finished.

That's looking good paddy, I see it's fairly close, sometimes you can make them look a bit bigger by jacking them up but I reckon that's high enough. I get a bit fed up of buying cars that I think should be the right size but they're noticeably smaller

Just fed up with no one recognising the market for 1/32 pickups other than USA versions, it's not as if they are rare in UK, not so sure about Europe in general. The roads round here are full of them. Lads that felled some rotting Poplar trees for us during 'Beast from the East' came in a seriously  tyred Hilux so might put this one in a tree felling diorama. Ploughed its way through a foot of snow with chipper on. Just need a chipper and can of snow now!;)

Someone needs to start making L200s, Rangers etc. Nearest we've got at the moment is the amaroc

So your not going for full terrorist spec with the ammo on the back :D looks a nicely detailed kit Paddy, scale wise it don't look far out considering your fiqure is stood on a plinth.

I have got the vw amarok think its 1/34,I can scale it out if anyone wants to know.

Just a bit of finishing to do so thought I'd have a measure up. Dropped lucky the other day when an older Hilux parked near me in town & owner was ok with me measuring it up. The real thing measured up at length 4620mm/height to cab top 1702mm/width 1752mm/wheelbase 2921mm. Scaled down give or take fractions length is -4.4mm/height spot on/width -5mm/wheelbase -5mm.

The figure would be 5'7" or about 1700mm in new money

A few photos to show how it looks with a Britains Ifor & uh 5000.

Looks exellent paddy :)  it's interesting that a few millimetres here and there can make it look out of scale, if only it was slightly wider. We'll have to see what comes along, hopefully welly or someone will start making some trucks that would be easy to convert, or resin kits ;)

Thanks Ted. Hopefully only a matter of time before the market gap gets filled. Tempted to build a 1/35 trailer/bowser for it and pop it in a small diorama. It came with a good selection of accessories..bottles of pop, 20 lit jerry cans, toolbox plus of course a fairly handy looking dude for general duties.:)

Just typed pick up truck into diecast on Ebay, selected 1/32 expecting the usual lack of anything. Up came a shed load of Hiluxes in 3 colours, white, green & rust. Opening doors, bonnet & tailgate, light & sound for around £14 a piece free postage.

The dimensions given compare well with the measurements I took. Detail looks ok for price.

1 of each ordered, last order from Far East arrived in 8 days

I'm sure with some other stuff around it will look in scale. I was having a look on eBay last night as well and I found those same hiluxes on there. I nearly bought one but I didn't fancy ordering one from China. Will be very interesting to see yours :)

I'll let you know when/ if they turn up Ted, tyres look more like sand tyres size but should be fixable if needs be.

Thanks, I have ordered something before from China and it took 2 months haha, shouldn't take that long.

More than happy with them for the money, even handy screw under rear for adding a towbar. Each came with an anti aircraft gun!IMG_0772.thumb.JPG.4ce49608af9fc7484efbac4380168edd.JPG The wheels/tyres look ok in the flesh & more in scale. Good choice, the rusty/dusty one has just been sprayed on a white one by the looks of it. Just that bit longer and wider than the Meng kit makes it look more like scale.

Yes im going to give it a lift and some different wheels probably if I can find some which will make it look a little bigger but it looks pretty much in scale anyway  ,o, and some mud:D
