L33 DA17ON
So this is my first attempt at modeling. I'm trying to lay out a replica of our hill farm that in Cumbria. I'm new to the forum and to all this. I'm trying to build the sheds out of plywood and hope to get the block wall paper and ribbed card to get the right affect. This is what I have so far. L33 DA17ON
Thanks guys, As I say its a first attempt but it's how you let your imagination take it. It's not a cheap hobby ha ha!. As the other half is always reminding me.£££..anyway looking at some of the people on here who are making their own i think my buildings wont look as realistic as them but if I do some research I'll love to get to that stage. L33 DA17ON
So been having a little play around this afternoon. Needing a small cottage for my build I thought I'd try doing a shell out of cardboard and see how it turns out. I'm finding it very satisfying doing most things myself. And saving money as well. Also got a delivery of woodland scenics ballast medium cores and a fine sand. To start the main entrance to the farm. Think I'm going to mix the two colours to get the desired effect. Might have a go at trying to colour some black as our trck is T1&T2 subbase mixed in with old road clippings. Also been trying out different affects for the cottage walls. L33 DA17ON
So I've had another little play about with decorators cork and some knotting solvent. Just trying out different effects. Used cork as I cant get my hands on sculpture clay. Also made some windows and window sills with lollipop sticks. Think I'm going to paint the window frames white. I'm not sure about the doors and how to make a wooden door.
L33 DA17ON
So been and bought a old loader for a realy good price today. L33 DA17ON
Couple hours messing around over the last couple days. Got the tin sheets fitted to the implement shed still needs finishing off. then I started to have a go at building some wooden gates. I cut some timber down into strips about 5-10mm on the big rip saw In the garage. Nice a thin so I can cut it easy with a knife. so made a load of sizes to make a few gates. Just takes a good while to cut, glue and sand. Hinges are just florist wire warped round a lollipop stick to get the diameter the glued on. then with all the small off cuts I thought I'd have a go at making a pallet just a quick mockup. also painted the old block wall where the bottom cattle shed will be and the cow crush. L33 DA17ON
Forgot to mention the delivery from hlt miniatures I ordered some rough looking hedge rows so I can start to get the entrance to the farm started. Does any one know how I could make the hedges look a bit more line a horthorn hedge.
L33 DA17ON
Had a mess about with the house today. I need to constraint on one building at a time. I find myself doing loads of different things. Ok when I'm waiting for things to dry. But feels like nothings getting done. Need to have a play about with some woodland scenics fine ballest and sand mixing them to get a gravel lookalike. And mabie get some with black paint in it to for main road. They look a little more realistic might spray them blue like the euro pallels that everyone seems to have at least one or two.

L33 DA17ON
Little more work done on greenside today layed some texture in the main road and up the gravel track to the yard. It actually looks better than the pics make out. I'll get a one tomorrow when its dry. Also got the slurry pit /midden carved out and tried some styles of concrete laying. I like the look of the lighter colour gray but I only gave a small amount. I have 2 bags of a darker gray and tried some down the side of the cattle shed. But think it not right. I'll wait and see tomorrow see how it drys. I've decided to try build (well try and build) my own stone walls this is just gravel put though a strainer. And added pva leave to dry over night. Ferret90
Cracking job lee great to see people making stuff instead of just buying stuff! Those walls are brilliant, I had a go once the same way but mine didn’t go so well
sipher172
The wall looks great. Did you have to glue to each stone or did you water it down the PVA and pour in as a liquid?
