Cracking job lee great to see people making stuff instead of just buying stuff! Those walls are brilliant, I had a go once the same way but mine didn’t go so well

Haha yeah the first go I did wasnt so good. Not the way it turned out, It was more the size of stones I used. They where a couple sizes bigger and didn't look right. So this was the next size down. For me it's all about thinking what i can make I've got a couple of ideas in my head that I'm going to. I found it hard with the scale of things. That's why I bought a gate and a set of walls. Just to get the size and hight. Same with silage bales. Easy made your self but knowing the size...

The wall looks great.  Did you have to glue to each stone or did you water it down the PVA and pour in as a liquid?

No the best and easiest way I've found is make the template, ive done mine out of perspex and bolts. Then choose your style of stones and size, mine are from the gravel track from the farm and separated with a couple different strainers. Then all I do is mix pva in a tub with the stones not loads of pva and dont water down. Then put them into the molding and tamp them down. I found keeping some steady heat on them works best as it makes the pva dry clear. Leave overnight till dry and peel away very carefully as itll still be soft but set. If you dont have perspex you could use lego blocks to build a mold as the pva wont stick to anthing plastic.

Some serious concrete going on at greenside today got the full cattle shed and front yard done. Alond the side where there will be a cattle crush.

Why is it when you lay concrete you always get a bird walking in the finished area. :D20200501_192515.thumb.jpg.2eafe5c9e65021562ff2b0ab4a5695b7.jpg20200501_192508.thumb.jpg.1ee2a7253f6ac4abcbc4151e351c1167.jpg20200501_192604.thumb.jpg.6a38f5cd009b637833dbf2f8736cbb53.jpg20200501_192600.thumb.jpg.d0e60197ff5d999eca74ac4a1d617e8c.jpg20200501_192545.thumb.jpg.13ad38e4fe04950ac783e74735144ba0.jpg20200501_192520.thumb.jpg.a9d57701ebfd423089b995a09bc67cd8.jpg

So as greenside starts to get built and grow into the hill farm we own on the northern pennines. I'm slowly getting there, today I had a little go on the cattle shed. When I started I thought that I wouldn't go into much detail. But now I'm getting into it I like the idea. Anyway the only things I've bought so far is a set of walls, one 10ft gate and 3 hedges, or and the block wall paper and ribbedcard. The rest or the stuff, I have bought but its stuff that's been laying round or in the garage. I've done a little bit of Yorkshire boarding on the cow shed and got the block walls done (in paper) ha ha!. The concretes been laid so cubicles can now be installed whitch I'll use copper wire and spray them. If I thought a bit more when starting I should of built it so the Yorkshire boarding was see though but I dont think it looks to bad as it is. 20200503_170435.thumb.jpg.4017423758c769ec30e758030d5dd6db.jpg20200503_170314.thumb.jpg.86d0ae79dd2704f9a58e2eb6b9fd52bb.jpg20200503_170459.thumb.jpg.315a8b3a532cf123fe553c9571b272ba.jpg20200503_170514.thumb.jpg.37c7f648a28e2203581729af0e35fe21.jpg20200504_183329.thumb.jpg.ebdc803f15d93f7a738c666ba831afb3.jpg20200504_183340.thumb.jpg.60ace2031169ce86b096f25fe4d8a465.jpg

Coming together nicely, I like the use of concrete, it looks very effective even at this scale.

Thanks yeah looks better than just painting it gray. Luckily for me we had 2 bags of grout leftover in garage after tilting the kitchen floor. It's dark gray but once its dry I sand the rough off and it goes a shade lighter. Whitch looks better I think. I must say I'm learning as i go along things might change as time goes on. Thanks for looking.

So poped into Carlisle today to get some scaffolding for builders to return and hopefully get the house sorted out. Slates put on the rear of the house. Also need to get on and finish the Yorkshire boarding on cow shed. Hopefully get some more work done on greenside this coming week. 20200507_205623.thumb.jpg.cd5e645d678da17fc341241571742ea7.jpg20200507_205656.thumb.jpg.b194dc48214c4a643ad7d6fe3021da11.jpg20200507_205846.thumb.jpg.a0f45e43243944e6c346bb49ba6b5180.jpg20200507_205855.thumb.jpg.9b47a95f43e23a856d689d68f64ecd8b.jpg

Also finally got the brackets fitted for front loader. Fitted it to the old valmet that doesn't do much work round the yard. Had to remove the front waight block. Get some pics up of that soon.

So haven't done much on greenside this last week or so. But finely got round to doing some work today. Got some feed barriers made for bottom cattle shed and the calf pen at the bottom of feed passage. 20200518_153700.thumb.jpg.40dd1548ff002d7b71e6efb6a8bc0a41.jpg20200518_153600.thumb.jpg.87db3fd4fef3dc5df795cd9d934f475d.jpg20200518_153056.thumb.jpg.2bd6c1f96699d936b7b3c7386b97e0f6.jpg20200518_153020.thumb.jpg.5332df669a21070a7555c9cb7965c62b.jpg20200518_152945.thumb.jpg.bba6cd21f38fb965aaa692fe337b778d.jpg20200518_153103.thumb.jpg.bb19a51951a559fe96cb7a26517d9001.jpg

I've also decided to change the entrance to the farm as I think I was trying to fit to much in. I'm not going to have the farm house on show now. Had to move the cattle grid to the left hand side of layout. It's a shame as I sank it in, so it was level with the plywood. Now have a hole I need to fill. Haven't even got going and I'm changing things all ready. I'll get some more pics up with the progress.

feed barriers are nice and tidy, nice to see stuff made rather than off the shelf at times

Thank you. As I sat I'm trying to do it with the stuff I have laying around in the garage. I've made strips of wood with the big saw in garage. I'm enjoying trying to build it my self. Anyone can just buy the stuff and make a diorama.

Got a couple things done today. Got the hole filled were the cattle grid was got the new entrance set and started to lay the gravel track. I'm in two minds wether to carry on with the gravel or use the grout as concrete. As the track is now getting concreted this week. 20200519_151012.thumb.jpg.51d9d14e5181d2b194b1891a80cf0ecd.jpgIMG-20200506-WA0000.thumb.jpg.a44d88ac615c8a76c9fb5312479dfa2c.jpg

also got a little done on cattle shed.used some styrene to replicate steel work in the block work. Got the Yorkshire boarding coated with stain. barriers and calf pen set in place. Might sand calfpen down and respray it see if I can get a better finish, dont like it when you can see glue at the joints. 20200519_150833.thumb.jpg.0ce1418d15517c81504b8fafd68f9839.jpg20200519_150804.thumb.jpg.617a6026a1f7c05172233cca27c94b43.jpg20200519_150849.thumb.jpg.8880989b888c0dd805a73d7bb5ddffc1.jpg20200519_150839.thumb.jpg.985a868dde5afcb37eba93ecd24442e2.jpg20200519_150921.thumb.jpg.ba1405cd547478c1c6d22be9bab04349.jpg20200519_151000.thumb.jpg.25248f01d3cd2d34ef8e7dc349690a99.jpg

and as I was waiting for things to dry I had a go at making my log splitter. It's free standing home made. 20200519_161548.thumb.jpg.ad45371d6931ffd441fbbb7b5226b19a.jpg20200519_161535.thumb.jpg.d9b9038e45c06f69c285ce3560dd7d16.jpg20200519_161704.thumb.jpg.b5ebff56647de9626f10c6133a5780c8.jpg20200519_162117.thumb.jpg.54ccfca7e397aa2ee7d8e9d0001e9804.jpg

Some more work done on greenside

Had some grass flock so had a go at laying some I know static grass is all the thing now but I didn't want to spend to much on a applicator. Might do in time to come. Changed the entrance moved it over as I was going to struggle fitting most of it on the board. So I've done away with the house its rented out to a family anyway so nothing yo do with farm realy. The track upto yard should be more to the left hand side but I wanted to have the main entrance on the diorama. 20200525_222540.thumb.jpg.59b1437ddb4cf53a3d698d467c85b573.jpg

Have ordered some more grass scatter as a bag doesn't go very far. 20200523_213514.thumb.jpg.7ca1e390d2b6c204b2e60ef22026f219.jpg20200523_213502.thumb.jpg.9f6e7ad9f5ad511d18617636da1feecf.jpg20200523_213444.thumb.jpg.a7d2ed41a0595aa8ad74837c69a75cb7.jpg20200523_213438.thumb.jpg.3d9c53120905ab10658119e1acea5e9b.jpg

had a go at making this look like boulders and rocks. We put a round ring feeder in it for the cows with new born calfs, sometimes has a creep feed in just depends what's in the field. 20200525_222706.thumb.jpg.718a611d36c71c34060b1e2c1a42ff62.jpg20200525_220455.thumb.jpg.d89f82737711326779b921ed5bca70b2.jpg20200525_222515.thumb.jpg.d1a531956739efb4733860e58f7c3fa6.jpg20200525_222525.thumb.jpg.62f37747928e23c31bb7801379240c6f.jpg

walls set in place now along the cattle grid. Doors fitted to front of cattle shed the two doors to the cubicles still need spraying black and I fitted one of the holes to the handles wrong. Wooden gates to yard will be changed to galvanized tube ones. 20200524_183133.thumb.jpg.503f6d44320379a7557aa699c492f46d.jpg

that cow hasn't died on me it's just basking in the nice wether we had a couple days ago. :D20200524_183320.thumb.jpg.c0fdfdf3ddbb3110081727c938f552ba.jpg

Grass scatter turned up today so grabbed a quick hour in the loft. 20200526_180905.thumb.jpg.c19e852eabd34a22106942d882bf2ed2.jpg

Looks a different colour as its smothered in watered down pva. Also done the little verge across the road abs a little round entrance/cattle grid.

Poped down to laversdale timber yard with the Renault this afternoon to collect some stock fencing and posts. Strainer posts and some square posts. No barbwire in stock so have to wait on stock. (Hlt miniatures). Going to be tied up rest of week as were heading to rvi with the boy Wednesday & Thursday so no work on greenside rest of week. 20200526_180200.thumb.jpg.4ec2273047f4cbd85e0d3b59cc57258c.jpg20200526_180229.thumb.jpg.0f28377d0e79327fc301c83de1fd4b8d.jpg20200526_180240.thumb.jpg.f584e75ad88678d57d612c6e24b3efbe.jpg20200526_180723.thumb.jpg.9d5d2696ad8b1b4d0097a968b514c99d.jpg20200526_180609.thumb.jpg.4d36d5f3970667b763bb1ebe9ea66fde.jpg

Quick little front bale spike made for the john deere. And a mess around with a silage bale that's been cut open. Not sure it looks right I use some crap super glue and activator to make it go white so li looks like crap moldy silage. Also started the double gates for bottom yard. 20200530_192723.thumb.jpg.dd2ac68e575c052aae87b912206845f2.jpg20200530_192740.thumb.jpg.d95ab4666951617cbe3883464954c4f6.jpg20200530_192602.thumb.jpg.0e88a61decb5095f07718695fa9dfdd2.jpg20200530_184926.thumb.jpg.55efbda213bb611b7417d3388ca7a9ec.jpg20200530_184926.thumb.jpg.55efbda213bb611b7417d3388ca7a9ec.jpg20200530_184736.thumb.jpg.43e04127dca69ffff12094fa01acfb54.jpg20200530_184713.thumb.jpg.9f33e4add4a8785fc9d8fcf9c0245e82.jpg20200530_185022.thumb.jpg.122f1d3ab82affeff05fbb2bf2340aba.jpg20200530_184611.thumb.jpg.d0d1aaaac7e32cef67a896a664d56cf7.jpg

So finally got round to doing the new fencing.Greenside is finally becoming stock proof. Got a call of off carrs in Carlisle that they had a hydraulic post driver that had just come in as a trade in. So heading down its cost £1200 so we can do our own fencing and patching up. 20200605_170900.thumb.jpg.def26a26f650bc3c2862ddac493478b9.jpg

Coming along nicely lee :)  For stock fencing I’ve found ‘scrim tape’ and some silver spray is cheaper than buying the fencing from a model place. never really seen a real farm replicated so very interesting ;)

Thanks. Yeah I've been to toolstation and bought a roll of tape and silver spray. I did buy the posts before I started the layout but to get my money's worth I've halfed them. So getting double. And the strainers are just garden canes. Hopefully get the rest done soon.

I was going to have a go with florist wire and rap one round the other.
