Popular Post Ferret90 Posted January 26, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 26, 2021 As a continuation from Coppice acre, I have started work completely changing my diorama so I thought it needed a new name and thread. Plaishford farm is based on local farms around me in in the south, I’m hoping to keep it looking traditional and as English as possible. It is work in progress at the moment but I have got a bit more done since the last post. 4 Backscenes down Ive finally found the right one that seems to fit. I decided to use polystyrene as a base to calve into and build areas up. After a bit of trial and error used woodland scenics Medium, light and conifer green fluff With seafoam as, even though it’s not cheap, the colours seem to be correct compared to the cheaper stuff, which came across blue and just didn’t look right. I found a guide on modelling foliage which was really helpful and Shows to what plants are around at certain times of year. I have set Plaishford in may-June time. I also had a go with woodland scenics realistic water to make the stream and ford, Its lot glossier than stuff I’ve used before but seems to creep up the sides http://www.009.cd2.com/members/how_to/modelling_plants.htm 20 Quote
Stabliofarmer Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 (edited) Ted, that's just out of this world! I've never seen greenery modelled so well on a model farm, and I'm questioning if I've even seen it better in the model railway world. The blend onto the existing layout is spot on too! The 009 site is a great resource, lost many an hour in there. Edited January 26, 2021 by Stabliofarmer 1 Quote
844john Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 I'm with James on that Ted, it's outstanding, definitely some of the most realistic scenery I've seen! 1 Quote

Stabliofarmer Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Well worth the time, very effective. I don't suppose you've any ideas for nettles? It's one thing I've never found in any blogs or websites, other than some photoetched brass ones that where a small fortune. Quote

You’ve completely stumped mE there James, I’ve looked at those etched ones before but like you say the prices are silly for the amount. May be some tissue paper leaves? But how far do you go, I was thinking that the fluff I’ve used just gives the impression of leaves but if you did nettles would you need tonnes of individual plants, or could you show them another way? If you see lots together I suppose you don’t see individual plants. Hmmmm It’s really got me thinking 1 Quote
