Massey 550 parts 1/32

Question

Posted

Hi,

I'm thinking of trying to build a 550 so looking at a Britains 135 chassis and a cab and bonnet from the 595. But, before I jump in and start cutting things about, does anyone know of a source of parts for this type of conversion or better still a ready built model?

Thanks.

Very nice, way beyond what I had in mind!

Did you stretch the 135 chassis the 8 scale inches (6mm) as per the 148 or is it not noticeable?

didnt bother extending for this one,  doesnt really notice in all honestly, i know its not right, but the agro cutting extending and rejoining the chassis(done it twice now for my 575’s both 2wd,just isnt worth it ,took ages to get them strong enough to add the loader ect to them.this 550 may yet get a loader to make it a replacement for the current small unit 135 i have on the layout .

Apart from adding glazing to a Unimog (fiddly but the effect is worth it), I've not tried modifying anything. I have a 135, 595, and 362 as part of the collection, so just looking at possibilities for somewhere to start I'm thinking a 135 chassis with a glazed 595 cab / platform, and a 362 bonnet. Probably be a long time before it happens as a lot of time is being wasted playing with a full scale version. 😊

here you go, not great pics but can get better if reauired  , was way to hot up there . looks like i did it on a britains 362 chassis, jd4020 front axel with altered skinny wheels. old 6140 rear hubs  sanded down to take ford old 5000 or chaffer sprayer rear tyres and the push pin axel centre. old 135 loader arms and bucket altered to a custom frame ,and repo britains bonnet cab and arches altered to fit.got to be 20 years old i recon

Hmm... I think at 20 years old it's time you moved it on?😉 Even just glazing the cab makes a difference.

Thanks for sharing.

I see UH do a 148, so if they have the chassis... might have to wait and see.

i highly suspect its the same as the 135 they did, bar the decals and the roll bars / euro siroco cabs  they didnt  do to much more to it from memory

Just glanced over the shelf with the Britains 595 on it, and sat next to my 1/24 Touran and 1/25 P38 got me wondering...

Dived into the Massey handbook then using a scale converter discovered the 595 makes a very close match to a 550 - in 1/28! So close.

I'll have to get a photo of them together in 1/1 and compare.
