Popular Post TractorToddler Posted October 8, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 8, 2024 Welcome to the thread for our 1/32 diorama. I will post up a few pictures from Spalding show at the weekend and then maybe some pictures of the work in progress. And then hopefully more developments in the future. As in our intro post, this diorama happened because TT himself (now almost 6 and very much not a toddler, but never mind) wanted something to display at Spalding. The concept and design we worked on together, and he helped with a good chunk of the scenery. Although the idea is we can easily change and expand this diorama, we thought we'd start with a tractor run as the best way of displaying all their tractor toys at once (when you are 5, quantity > quality!) and then a combine, although the logistics of having a tractor run starting in the yard you're trying to cart grain to don't bear thinking about. The other must-haves were the family in miniature, some scaled model tractors as we are never out and about without them, and a model of our car which is almost as notorious as us for popping up where there is exciting tractoring going on. Hope you enjoy, and thanks to those of you who stopped by to say hello (and including @sipher172 on the stand next door) and those of you who have been an inspiration! 10 Quote

Wish we'd known about that 😅 they are from WASPslots on ebay supplied unpainted, and painted by the wife as her contribution. The toy tractors were a couple of scrap bits of wood attacked with a knife, with the wheels made from old school plastic cotton buds. They are scaled to be 1:16! Quote

I reckon the 3D scan thing was just a fad don't think they do that now, That was dated 2013 I think, But you may be interested in 3D printing your own figures / models, And your boy's although maybe a bit young just now they would love something like that, Plenty figures etc to chose from and mostly free, here is a small selection, https://cults3d.com/en/users/Characters/3d-models Loads of 3D printers out there, But I'd advise you to learn to walk before trying to run, I presently have 3 " FDM " printers 2 of which are Creality machines, they've kinda gone out of voque these days in favour of more complex machines that can print useing four different coloured filaments But a bit tricky for new starts, something like this would be a good entry level printer, https://www.creality.com/products/creality-ender-3-v3-se?spm=..page_1967279.products_display_1.1&spm_prev=..index.header_1.1 A kilo of filament contains 440mtrs of filament and goes a long way. Regards Joe. Thanks Joe. It's definitely in the long-term plan but other priorities first! I've printed some of my own stuff via Shapeways in the past but need to work on my CAD skills to make the best use of anything Quote
James Joe Dewar Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 (edited) Ah shame Shapeways closed down a few months ago as everybody these days do they're own 3D printing, And up untill a couple of years ago I thought CAD would be unatainable for me, Untill I found RS Designspark via Facebook, Clicked on the link, downloaded the software, followed their instruction, And ten minutes later I had a 3D object on my PC screen, It was annoyingly that simple, But there are actually Millions on .stl files available to download ,mostly free from various file shareing sites, Yeggi being probably the biggest with nearly 6 Millions files, I tried to find this last but couldn't, temporari;y out of stock, more in on 16th, made with kids in mind, Notice handle on top so they can take it to their pals house etc, £130 easy to build easy to operate, my first "desktop" 3D printer. https://store.creality.com/uk/products/ender-2-pro-3d-printer?cfb=20d4ca80-bc3d-48bd-ae14-3d7213da4c54&ifb=20d4ca80-bc3d-48bd-ae14-3d7213da4c54&scm=search.v39.694.102.103.104&score=1&ssp=&spm=..collection_b4157485-048c-4362-ad65-dadb21a95f2d.header_1.1&spm_prev=..index.products_display_nav_1.1 https://www.rs-online.com/designspark/mechanical-software https://www.yeggi.com/ Regards Joe. TractorToddler Posted October 13, 2024 Author Posted October 13, 2024 The feature of the diorama that got the most comment at Spalding was the wheat field (a mutilated coir doormat) but the second was the hill... Thinking about it there's only one other diorama we've seen recently at Spalding with significant elevation change (Will Bennett's) and it is a bit of an alien concept in the fens and to the Dutch visitors too. Here's how we planned and made it... 4 Quote

TractorToddler Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 Well, we've booked a double table for Spalding in April so I guess we'd better extend... The plan is for a traditional Suffolk barn and cart shed based on local examples picked by TT - I wonder if we will get that far! And yes, we will be having a bit of the popular gradient. ,. 2 Quote
