I think the family may well be 3D prints of him his wife and family 3D printed at some Super Market chain which he has painted and added minute toy tractors as well,

Wish we'd known about that 😅 they are from WASPslots on ebay supplied unpainted, and painted by the wife as her contribution. The toy tractors were a couple of scrap bits of wood attacked with a knife, with the wheels made from old school plastic cotton buds. They are scaled to be 1:16!

I reckon the 3D scan thing was just a fad don't think they do that now, That was dated 2013 I think, But you may be interested in 3D printing your own figures / models, And your boy's although maybe a bit young just now they would love something like that, Plenty figures etc to chose from and mostly free, here is a small selection,

https://cults3d.com/en/users/Characters/3d-models

Loads of 3D printers out there, But I'd advise you to learn to walk before trying to run, I presently have 3 " FDM " printers 2 of which are Creality machines, they've kinda gone out of voque these days in favour of more complex machines that can print useing four different coloured filaments But a bit tricky for new starts, something like this would be a good entry level printer,

A kilo of filament contains 440mtrs of filament and goes a long way.

Thanks Joe. It's definitely in the long-term plan but other priorities first! I've printed some of my own stuff via Shapeways in the past but need to work on my CAD skills to make the best use of anything

Posted (edited)

Ah shame Shapeways closed down a few months ago as everybody these days do they're own 3D printing, And up untill a couple of years ago I thought CAD would be unatainable for me, Untill I found RS Designspark via Facebook, Clicked on the link, downloaded the software, followed their instruction, And ten minutes later I had a 3D object on my PC screen, It was annoyingly that simple, But there are actually Millions on .stl files available to download ,mostly free from various file shareing sites, Yeggi being probably the biggest with nearly 6 Millions files, ???

I tried to find this last but couldn't, temporari;y out of stock, more in on 16th, made with kids in mind, Notice handle on top so they can take it to their pals house etc, £130 easy to build easy to operate, my first "desktop" 3D printer.

Thinking about it there's only one other diorama we've seen recently at Spalding with significant elevation change (Will Bennett's) and it is a bit of an alien concept in the fens and to the Dutch visitors too. Here's how we planned and made it...

Looks like many hands make lite work.  Was great meeting you at Spalding.  My diorama was definitely a fens special, as it was as flat as a pancake, ha.

Well, we've booked a double table for Spalding in April so I guess we'd better extend... The plan is for a traditional Suffolk barn and cart shed based on local examples picked by TT - I wonder if we will get that far!

And yes, we will be having a bit of the popular gradient.
