Soilboy
A few pictures of the combines from the contractor I work for during the summer. Our Lexion 560 TT new last harvest cutting winter barley in early July 06. The tractor in the third pic is our Fendt 818 pulling a Ktwo Roadeo 1400 14t. trailer with roll over sheet. This picture was taken a year ago and shows four of the five combines we had back then. They are (from L to R) JD 2264 Hillmaster, JD 9660WTS Hillmaster, JD 2264 Hillmaster, MF 7274 Cerea AutoLevel. The JD 9660WTS has since been replaced by the Lexion above. The picture on the left is our old JD 9780CTS Hillmaster which we ran for the 2004 and 2005 seasons but has since been sold. On the right is the JD 9660WTS Hillmaster as seen in the above picture in the shed, but this time cutting winter barley in early July 05. I hope people dont mind the thumbnails but im still on dial up so its a bit slow for me putting on all the big pictures! FB
Soilboy, just wondering, where were these taken \ \
Soilboy
FB, most are these are taken near Aylesbury in Bucks, apart from the two of the 560 cutting barley which were taken near Cholsey in Oxfordshire.
FB
thought it may be closer to me, see very similar groups of machines around the A10 near Royston :)
ctsboy
Would they be MR Gollins machines?
Tractorman810
so soil boy, seeing as you have run jd's class and a fergy all recently how do you rate thenm overall? just intrested in the good and bad points of each of them, as its rare to see contractors with that may different machines i recon, most stick to one make
Soilboy
Ctsboy, yes they are Mr Gollins machines, if u dont mind me asking how do you know of him?? Are you local? Tractorman, I would say that as a comparisson between the JD, Claas and MF, none of the combines stand out as being fantastically better than the other. The JD's seem to have been very reliable apart from two 9640 WTS combines that they had before the 9660 and 9780 but their output is poor but the newer machines especially are very nice to drive and do a neat job. The last 9660WTS we had seemed to be very well built as it never had a spanner on it in two seasons. The Claas at the moment doesnt seem very good as it had a problem concerning the speed of the straw walkers and sieves which meant that it chucked a lot of corn over the back. It is again very nice to drive though and has a brilliant header, and i hope this next season with its problems now sorted it will shine a bit better. Terra Tracs are good as well. The MF has good output but a bit of a tendency to chuck corn over the back again. Cab is crap though and it isnt as well built as the Claas or JD. Tractorman810
cheers for the info, its always good to hear the pluses and minusis for machines like that from someone whos used all of the recently, gives a fair comparison overall,
ctsboy
Hi soilboy I lived and worked local to Golly for 2 years but moved back to staffordshire last year. I used to work for his competiter.
Pingu
Lovelly combines i reckon seen that 560TT about in Oxfordshire. Who covers your Claas Southerns at Reading helped us alot with our 570+TT? How was the workrate of the JD 9780 as mate reckons his would compete with our 570+TT which averages 45tph+ easily just out of interest ??? How many seasons has your MF 7274 done now? As Emmits has now done its sixth season with not many faults apart from powerflow header has the 7274 had problems with its powerflow? Soilboy
I dont think the 9780 would match a 570+ on output as it is held back by a lack of engine power, but with more horses it wouldnt surprise me if it would manage 45tph. The MF had some problems with its powerflow header in its first season (2004) but since then that bit has been trouble free and its just the actual combine that has given a few troubles. The 560 is looked after by Olivers at Bicester. It doesnt get over into oxfordshire much, just a little bit around Wallingford but that was just a few days work.
