Lord Ferguson Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Well... it's been a long time coming... but worth the wait in my opinion.... The MF1100 by scale models in 1:16 scale... Now all you detail lovers out there will dislike it instantly I am sure... YES... it's pretty basic... to say the least... HOWEVER... it is what it is... a functional, robust, sandpit worthy KIDS TOY Upon first glance it appers to be the usual scale models build quality... which can only be likened to early ERTL stuff from the 70's and 80's - the steering works.. as it should do... the wheels turn... and thats about all you get... The exhaust is made of rubber... which makes it a good safe toy for kids... The tyre detail is good as well.. something Scale Models have got very 'right' in their Country Classics range in my opinion... Negatives.... well... we could have done with some form of 3pt linkage... the backend is pretty 'sparce' on detail... and why no front weights... like on the 1130 and recent 1150 - it's got the same casting to the front... so to add a few wafer weights would have been easy... and a nice touch... Anyway... before I post the pics.... in summary... another good model from the Scale Models stable... I'd give it 8/10 Quote
Lord Ferguson Posted January 19, 2008 Author Posted January 19, 2008 Sorry for the poor quality pics... we are down to 3 lightbulbs out of 6 in the front room :D - times is 'ard Some link arms would have been nice Mr Scale Models... you managed it on the 1130 and 1150 :'( Quote
Lord Ferguson Posted January 19, 2008 Author Posted January 19, 2008 Last two... thanks for looking.. any questions.. fire away.. Quote

MDFord Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Are Scale Models anything to do with Ertl? The style of build of this one is similar to an old Ertl Deere 5020 that I've got. Pretty basic yes, but solid and a good likeness to the real thing, and if its anything like the 5020 then the steering is very good. I'd have to agree with you Marky, these 1/16 sandbox models probably aren't to most British collectors taste, but they have got a certain something about them Quote

CCF Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I think Scale Models was started by one of the Ertl's sons You are correct, Joe Ertl founded Scale Models. A bit plain, but they seem to get the overall concept down well, a model I would possibly like to have in my collection someday. Thanks for the review Quote
Lord Ferguson Posted January 19, 2008 Author Posted January 19, 2008 I think you are right there Scott.... I think Scale Models is a swear word in Ertl's factory \ You are correct, Joe Ertl founded Scale Models.
