A rare australian Ford, the Ford 8401

Recommended Posts

Just got this one home, only made in Australia. Based on a  Ford 7700 with a derated TW10 engine by SEM and fitted in Australia with a local build cab and tinwork

Never seen one in the flesh.

Very nice tractor, only it needs frontweights badly, because of the looks.

yup.......definite thing of beauti, i seen one before, but not here in New Zealand

the aussie sourced ford 7700 i used to drive had a black bonnet too,.........stops the glare

3pt hitch was optional on chamberlain sedan series at the same time these were marketed also

you can always rely on a aussie to make something solid, simple, and that works

Hi Reece,

in The Netherlands we only had the mass produced tractors. I read in Stuart Gibbard's book the 8401 only went to Australia.

Is it possible to get some pictures of the 8401's in your area? Would like to see more of them. You mention a few other models. Can you be more specific?

Regards,

Jack.

I seem to remember someone had 1/32 at Zwolle on display a few years ago with the colour scheme of the brochure at start of this topic, But as I say I did this back in the early 90s, -'never got round to doing the Waltana TW though which I have also seen at Zwolle a few years back. Any guesses what I used to make this 8401?...Well keep them to yourselves...na nana na na!! :D;)

Yes, you are right Nigel. Someone made a couple of these models from scratch. I remember him because he was showing his models next to mine. Quality wasn't that good :'(. Forgot to make pictures >:(.
