JohnP
I was a bit surprised when I'd trekked over to Anglesey on tuesday evening to see a 56-reg JD6420+loader & Fraser flatbed trailer go into the gate just after me - even more surprised to see an old Deutz & hay turner dissapear out of the base .... Next day it became clear they were haymaking on the airfield ! JD66-- + Welger baler, JD7710 cutting, the Deutz turning
JohnP
has anyone else seen it so early ? (although airfields are generally a special case tio try & keep the birds away)
batcher
That wont be worth a pound a bail Is it wrapped or just bailed to clear so that the pollen and seeds don't get into the engines ?
JohnP
Well, they were taking proper big round bales away. Short grass helps keeps the birds from settling and easier to clear. They don't do the engine or airframe much good even at take-off speeds (as we keep finding out !)
Deere-est
Blimey, I've never seen that before John. Near me at Keevil Airfield they practice Touch & Go with the Hercs, I think that keeps the grass down as it is so cutting it isn't nessecary! fendt-man-matty
they might not have wapped the bales because they may just need a few bales to keep them going for another month or so for cattle \
Tractorman810
i guess if they have the contrat to cut the grass, then why waste it?? after all even 20 big bales are worth something at the end of the day, given how many farmers recon they didnt do so well last year with the weather

nashmach
I wouldn't mind that six cylinder Deutz - needs must at this time of the year
robl12
Have seen them doing this when I used to fly into the Shetland Islands. The local farmer used to bale the grass for hay as if they leave it lying once it dries out it could be blown about and become a hazard.
