SOME FARMING BOOKS FROM THE 1950's and 1960's

I was up in the loft last night and managed to dig out two A4 photocopier boxes of old farming books which my father was given many years ago when they were clearing out the library. Well could not let these old books be thrown out.  Anyway I can see myself spending a lot of time reading some of these over the winter months.

First up is a book called FARM MECHANIZATION COSTS AND METHODS BY CLAUDE CULPIN

3 methods of using a medium powered tractor for ploughing

682008002.jpg

3 distinct methods of cultivation

Great to see all the old pictures, and how little some of the machinery has changed over the years.

My mum had a load of fifties and early sixties Dairy Farmer and I think Farmer and Stockbreeder magazines tucked away in her loft. Sadly when I asked her if she wanted a new home for them; she said she had thrown them away because she didn't think anyone would want them.

It's the old adverts that I find really interesting. There were so many leaps forward with machinery at the time.  :)

Interesting books Bill, I've still got father's university books and they do make a good read.  ;D

I must admit John they have been in the loft for years and I just decided to retreat to the loft the other night since it was pouring down and could not really do anything outside. So far that's only two of the books and yes one was a university one too it had someones name on it and Aberdeen University. I'm gonna have a lot of reading over this winter me thinks. ;D ;D

I too have my university books up in the loft but don't worry I'm not going to bore you with pictures of profit and loss accounts and balance sheets and such like things ;) ;)
