Had a great day today as the sun came out i saw the pair of nh combines that i photo'd last week so stopped for more pics and a chat and got to spend a couple of hours in the cab of the cx8060 ;D ;D of which i was expecting the cab to have more kit in it really as it looked quite sparce. Also i expected the driver to have been a lot busier making constant adjustments and the like but instead it was more a case of drop the head at one end and lift it at the other. Anyway enjoy the pics ;)

What      did you think us combine drivers do lots of work :-\

They look flat fields to me and the combine you were on has sensors on the header to controll highth so basically all you do is what you said.

Now go with them when the crop os flat and see what they have to do    Bet you wouldn't like the words that would come out of his mouth ;D ;D

Modern combines have come a long way in a short time    the less a driver has to do the more productive he is

Oh and i bet he was monitoring more things than you might of thought all at the same time ;)

oh and what is that blue looking stuff in the sky    dont get much of that round here

most combines are still in the sheds locally    all exept the ones who are getting 25%+ moisture levels :o

Now that is going to be one expensive drying bill at the end and it all eats away at the minute profits :'(

I cannot tell you how jealous I am BN... looks a great view from up there :) Been watching them work when I've been on my travels today.

Great pictures and a lucky guy to drive the combine.

Texas

I loved every minute of it and could have stayed with them all day but thought id better go home at some point ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

As Scott says cutting is much more difficult than you think - watching for lumps going into the elevator keep the header low but still not let clay up on it - watch the grian loss monitor - watch for any smoke in the mirrors, watch out for badly parked trailers, ring tractor drivers and find out where they are, complain, talk to who ever is up there, worry about the next black cloud on the horizon....will I go on :D :D
