BC
Yesterday I was in the countryside out near Kemnay in Aberdeenshire and spotted a combine I had never seen before a Bonhill B524 circa 19992 / 1993 on a K reg plate. I stopped in a passing place and made my way to the filed as the farmer hitched up the table. I always like to ask if its ok to take photos and again there was not a problem. I had a brief chat with the farmer and he said that there were not too many of these combines in Scotland and the ones preceding this one with electronics were blue in colour. He was really just starting to cut his 150 acres and was a bit fed up with the wet weather of late. The grain was coming in at around 19% but his biggest fear was getting up some of the hills. I had not a lot of time to spare as I had to collect my mother and then visit pops in hospital so apologies I didn't get front on cutting shots. Just wondering if anyone on here could give me any more information on these Bonhill machines since as I say I have not seen one before. I like the 3 wheeler ;D

ertlerik
BC, that is a Fortschrit combine from former east germany, not a bonhill, probably the contractor name. When you google Fortschritt you will find plenty info i think Erik.

Thanks Erik I did ask if it was from Germany and the farmer confirmed he thought it was He said the downside of the combine was that if it broke down there was usually a two day delay in waiting for parts. BC
Some nice pics never seen one ofthose combines before Thanks painter... I'm glad I'm not the only one on here who has never seen or heard of this make before ;D. It kinda different to the JD's and the Lexions and NH's. PS I haven't been able to catch a MF working this year yet but I've seen one sitting in a field only a few miles from me so I will try and get that one too just so the massey boys don't feel left out ;D

Case IH did buy Fortschritt in 1997, i would think parts might be easy to get from them, specialy since the combines were also sold in Case IH red for a few years. Erik. BC
It certainly was a bit wet underfoot at the bottom of the field. With be a lot worse after last nights heavy rain after the thunder and lighting storms.
4C
Bonhill is a import/marketing company based at Beverley (were at South Cave) and also imported Fendt tractors up until Agco buying Fendt. Think that they also imported other agricultural stuff as well. http://www.bonhillmarketing.co.uk/profile.htm Think that link should be it. Thanks for that 4C I don't feel so bad now about mistaking the name ... I mean Bonhill was bigger and bolder than the other name ;D
CX820Joe
Not the most common of combines. but I do know of one farmer who had an E524, brand new as well I think, although he never kept it long and got an E517 instead, he didn't get on with the 524 for some reason, possibly the electronics as he'd been used to BM Volvo's. The E517 is still there in fact! I can remember when the E524 was released, I think it featured self levelling technology to a certain degree also. A great find! Deere-est
Wow!! I have only ever seen blue ones and they were rsuted out in the stingers at my mates yard! Long gone now though. They probably made tin cans out of it. \
britainswomble
Wasn't it Fortschritt that made the Leley combine from the late sixties and early seventies..........the one with the folding header.......if you can remember back that far. NIGEL FORD
Wasn't it Fortschritt that made the Leley combine from the late sixties and early seventies..........the one with the folding header.......if you can remember back that far. sorry Will but the Lely was all British built apparently. There's an owners club/register been started recently, there was a mention about it in one of the recent tractor mags. I saw the occasional blue Forschritt/Bonhill at Burdens combine graveyard, Isle of Sheppey in the 90s when I used to prowl around for bits for my Dom 80, ' never saw one working close-up though. Thanks for the pics BC.

nashmach
One of those still working near me - my next door neighbour and the chap's nephew cuts with him with his Laverda M152 Quite a few older blue ones around still as well although gradually being replaced as I don't think spares are too easily sourced even in some of the local breaker yards
