  1. That looks spot on, and thanks for the tips on the correct colour scheme. I have only seen one once at a dealer demo day, and I always thought there was too much light grey paint on this model, but I was not exactly sure how wrong it was.

I have also got a set of PMA link arms meant for the Ertl Precision JD8530 which I have cut down ready to replace the stock items (I have done this to my Weise Fendt models as well), and I have also bought an adjustable top link for the rear so implements will fit better. Not sure what to do about that tiny hitch yet....

I will have to get hold of some of the darker Fendt grey paint then. Well Done again!

  2. I was wondering if any John Deere operators or enthusiast could help me with this. I have recently picked up an Ertl Precision JD 9750 STS, and from what little knowledge I have these machines were not readily available in Europe, with the WTS and Cylinder Tine type machines being more common.

The model I have has a damaged front wheel so I plan to convert this to single floats up front as per the euro spec, but I was wanting to know if anybody has any literature or pictures they would be willing to share that shows the differences in the headers, as well as any other physical differences in the actual machine so I can convert this to something resembling a machine that is more common in the UK.

On my travels I have seen a fair few 9780 CTS around the UK, and apart from the engine size, it would also be interesting to known the physical differences between this model from 2003 onwards and the 9750 STS.

Any help is much appreciated, and thanks for looking!

  3. I don't think front mudguards were factory-produced until the Force II TWs

Yes, I could be wrong but I don't recall seeing many TW's or pre Force 2 Fords with mudguards at the front, certainly in the UK at least.

The first time I recall seeing them in the UK was on a '89 G plate 7810 SJ come to think of it.

If somebody knows for sure it would be great to clarify it before I go take them of my Marge 7610....

  4. I am assuming the Fendt Katana is still going to be delivered with both the maize head and the grass pick up.

Am I correct in this assumption or was that just the first edition Agritechnica model?

  5. I am in the process of making a bonnet for a TW15 (1984 and 1987 models), and have been researching this lately. The last link Katana posted states that the TW 15 and TW25 have the same wheelbase of 2668mm, which is contrary to what I had thought of the TW25 and 35 being the same wheelbase but slightly different LOA.

From the images at the top, it is visible (just) that this is the case, and I am assuming from the images these are the bubble cab models on sale from '83-'85.

One would hope that UH's model being and '84 would have had the wheel base difference to the 8830 but I won't hold my breath... Can anyone else with a brochure from this era confirm it?

I already have dimensions for a TW20 from '79-'82 and these are different again, but I got this from an '81 X plate real life machine, which is approx. 2790mm.

Assistance from the true blue bloods would be much appreciated!

  6. I have found that the problem with a lot of realistic linkages (e.g. Schuco, Wiking) is the lack of adjustability in the top link makes posing or mounting the implement difficult. I have swapped a few top links from Weise Fendt models, which are open ended and adjustable and these work great.

If you could machine some, and leave a bit of extra 'meat' on one end, I could hand file the hook end of the top link into them as required. And I would be willing to pay what it costs for your efforts because I think for those fanatics like me who have gone to the trouble of replacing the linkages (like on UH models), even though the PMA top links are ok, an adjustable one would be loads better.

I did get some from a dutch guy, but the centre body of the link was a bit too bulky, and on the longer length links it did not look right. If you could copy the top links (front and rear) of the Weise Fendt 824 for example, that would be a winner.

  7. Which version is it, does it have the tilting cab with the engine detail underneath?

If its this one, there should be a little u shaped tag that clips in below the front number plate. Push this out to the front and the cab should fall away.

I think the later type without the engine detail just pulls off but I am not too sure.

  8. Thanks Captain... I'm pleased to be of service... you make an old man feel very useful... unlike nasty Barry  >:(:P

    ;D

    any good buddy...

Cheers! You posted the lower picture before and I have made some plans and acquired donor bits, its most definitely moving up the to do list

Just out of interest, what was the MF20D based on originally (chassis and engine type)?  I still want one of these and might attack that first seen as UH have offered the MF20B.

  9. I am generally happy with UH models, they have a good range and cater for a lot of tastes. The quality and accuracy is pretty good for the money, my only problem is the ridiculously unrealistic rear linkage, to which I must also say said rear linkage does seem to fit most all implements out their and is therefore more practical.

I have had a few higher end mass produced models recently that have a few quality issues recently (Imber and Schuco) and at £50 a piece for something that is not that well finished off is pretty irritating. I have 20 or so Universal Hobbies models and each and everyone is to my satisfaction. I only hope if they are going to increase production and broaden the range they can maintain the quality at the price point.

That said, as soon as my work situation stabilises further not only will I be buying the new UH models, but I have a fair few pieces I would like to get from DBP and BOR as well, its tough times for all and I am very sure that those who can support high end, low volume custom builders will do so regardless.

  10. I think a classic is anything you instantly recognise, and then double take just to be sure. So many times have I nearly ended up in the ditch/hedge doing that as I have driven past machinery working in fields.

You may not be a die hard fan of the brand, but you know what it is, and then think to your self, Nice!

I grew up wanting to drive them all, so I am possibly not the best person to ask...

  11. Thats interesting! I would like to track these down for a bit of history. I have picture of K--- XEC which was a 5640 SL in industrial yellow with mowers and a Quicke Loader. (I still prefer the hearing aid beige colour of the H model 10 series).

A friend of mine has an '89 F plate 3910H ex Barrow Council on his small holding, it has high hours but it is absolutely mint, this also has a set of Ransomes Mid mounted mowers that were a popular option with council parks departments.

I'm hoping to build a few of these just to do something different, I am also getting measurements to attempt to scratch build a Sekura type cab for the Marge Models 7610, it might be a good, if expensive base model for 39/46/5610H base model.

  12. Cheers for that!

That machine was on the 'bay last week, it was a bit far and would of been pricey for me to collect, but it only needed some cosmetic work really. I did not go and look at it which I really should of, I have seen some ex council tractors that have really been abused in recent months, with massive hours but still chugging on.

Apparently this type of cab is pretty quiet, which is why I am looking round for a 240 like this. The ex highway machines seem to be much cheaper than the red ones. And a compressor and loader fitted to one would be pretty handy for building my new house...

  13. I would appreciate a bit of help from those in the know, Could any one tell me which cab option is fitted to this Massey, its an '86 model?

I have not seen one like this before, so I was wondering if its common or not. Not only am I wanting to build a model of this on the upcoming UH MF240, but I am after something the like for my small holding.

    Cheers in advance!

  14. Cheers! Its a cracking model to start with after all is said.

I am trying to find the pictures I took of the real thing. I would like to do one with Faucheux loader, these were popular in Europe and you see a lot of 40 series tractors in France with these fitted. They are not very robust, but the operators said they were light which meant these tractors were pretty good on the road still, you did not loose any agility in tight spaces either.

I am also going to look at putting Wiking style set of link arms on the rear, it will look the part with Kuhn flail or a Joskin topper on it. Cumbria Council, before it contracted to Amey Mouchel had these with Ransome's rear and mid mounted gang mowers fitted, that would be some project...
