  1. I know this is a very old posting, but I've seen 1/16 3 point hitch kits available from both Dakotah Toys and SoMo Toys.
  2. Getting the castings spotless is an easy process with the right tool My brother, a mechanic, had what's called a "bead blaster" - similar to a sandblaster, but uses glass beads. It's a self-contained cabinet that you put the part you want to clean into, then use a hand-held gun to blast the paint and other imperfections away. He used it to clean auto and truck parts when working on them. It works like a charm for removing paint from diecast models. I am going to be sending him a couple combines to blast - he lives in a different state than I do. I've looked locally, but haven't been able to find any commercial place that does this kind of work.
  3. As far as I can tell, that spreader is an Allis-Chalmers model. I think it was probably part of a set sold by Ertl in the 1960's. The tractor and the spreader are all that I have.
  4. Exactly the problem...casting it would not be a mirror image...I would need a negative casting. Sadly, I do not have the original piece...and have never had it. The tractor came into my possession this way.
  5. I have a very old 1/16 scale Ertl Allis Chalmers D-17 that is in serious need of repair...trouble is, I have no good idea about how to go about it. The hitch is broken on one side of the casting. As you can see, it's intact on one side, and completely gone from the other. I have contemplated building it up with modeling clay, JB Weld, or trying to find some aluminum that I could bend, shape and fashion for the bulk of the repair. I am at a loss, having experimented a little with the clay and having little luck. Who has some ideas about a repair of this magnitude?
  6. What are some techniques you have used for removing rivets on Ertl toys? I don't want to damage the tractor bodies to remove rivets, so I thought I'd best ask those of you who have done more of the conversion and restoration work.
  7. Here are the ones I hope to be restoring soon. Any advice or tips will be much appreciated!
  8. A couple pictures of the first tractor I ever restored...I had this one as a child, and it was well loved. I repainted it, put new tires and decals on...but I can still see many flaws with the work as it is. I might re-do it someday!
  9. Here is a slideshow of most of the rest of my collection. I still have a few stragglers to add to the list, but this will give you a more general idea of my entire collection. http://s133.photobucket.com/albums/q73/frogchicken/Farm%20Toys/?albumview=slideshow You can find the show on photobucket!
  10. Here is a part of my collection - just wanted to share with you all! First up is the IH 915 Combine that I'm going to restore. It's in decent shape, but will look even better with new paint and parts! Next is my Franklin Mint Farmall H - I love the detail on this tractor. Next is the #1 John Deere Precision model. One of the very few JD tractors in my collection. Here is the Farmall Precision model. and last, here is the Ford Precision model. I've got quite a few more, but these are all I have here with me at the moment. I'll post more pics when I have access to the rest of my collection! Cheers! Matt
  11. Just wondering...has there ever been any production models of the MM GVI (G6) LP Tractor? My dad and uncle had one of these when I was a kid - used to pull an old one-way disk with it. I have only seen custom-built models, and even those seem to be pretty scarce. I'd love to find one if anyone has any leads.
  12. here's a pic of some of my IH tractors - currently all boxed up in Colorado. Eventually will have on display when I get room in my house!
  13. Ahh, the days of custom cutters coming through, all parked at the fairgrounds in Holyoke. That always looked like a gypsy lifestyle that I didn't envy at all My primary focus is 1/16 collecting. I've got a few of the Ertl Precision Series tractors, and hope to get more. I really want to lay my hands on one of the IH 1086's, but I don't have that kind of money right now! I grew up driving mostly IH tractors, but did learn to drive tractors with a Case 2390 and an IH 1086. Last tractor I drove was the Case IH 4WD 9150...and that was back in the 90's when I still did occasional work at home. The gleaner toy I speak of is the small one that Ertl made, probably back in the 1960's. My older brother likely got it for Christmas one year. The rims are all broken, and it has been glass-beaded (sandblasted) in preparation for restoration. I just got a new Dakotah Toys catalog, and sadly don't see many parts for this one...I can get the unloading auger and table auger, but I don't see the wheels or decals for it at all. I have a few of the 1/64 tractors and implements, and one or two 1/32 tractors, my favorite of which is a Case IH non-articulated 4WD (crab steering). Almost all of my collection is in boxes at my parent's house in Colorado, including many new IH tractors from when they did the 66 series releases a few years ago. I've got a picture of them somewhere...I'll try to upload it. I love them all - I guess it's the farm kid in me that just doesn't want to grow up!
  14. Thanks, everyone. I have a full list of old toys that I want to restore...stuff that was either mine, my older brother's, or neighbors' that they gave to me over the years. I've got one of the old Gleaner combines that needs a full resurrection, a JD 3020 wide front, an IH 806 narrow front, and a Massey Ferguson 760 combine. I've got an AC D-17 that's in pretty rough shape - the hitch is broken off on one side. All of them I hope to restore to their former glory. A few years ago, I restored my Case Agri King, but didn't really have the temperment or patience to do the job really well back then. Once I get all these things together and get some pictures taken, I will definitely call on you for help and advice!
  15. Hello, all! I'm Matt - grew up farming in northeast Colorado, and now live in the Kansas City metropolitan area. I've collected Ertl farm toys since I was a kid, but only recently got back into the game. What I'm hoping to find here are folks that have expertise and advice to give in restoration and scratch building. I recently bought and Ertl IH 915 Combine that I intend to restore, and I am also wondering if anyone has ever built or seen any toy Dempster grain drills. I look forward to making new friends on here, and I hope to interact with you soon! Matt
