    Harvest Log Day 8

Today we have cracked the rapeseed, 233 acres was the last block at Kingstone. Had an elevator slat go through combine 1 and through the chopper, changed the broken blades to keep going but the slat needs doing tomorrow...and into the wheat we go...if the weather holds! Not too sure where first at this point but it could be Bondip. I hope your balers are ready Mr Gillard ;):D IMG_7341.JPG.b2ce9baa2797ec28aa36f60b08937d78.JPGIMG_7342.JPG.5c3532f36bda9e7fae9460614355e4e1.JPGIMG_7343.JPG.c4c1d6d7b504b1b4df01d88ab9554b62.JPGIMG_7348.thumb.PNG.1d7901c05d947fcf3bcbeaf5aec90585.PNG

  2. Just a little end of week update , managed to get the last of the rape off , not ideal conditions but got there in the end ! Stubble cultivations now underway , the discs been out on top of some of the barley stubbles , the heavier ground saw the plough go in yesterday and earlier today the 1 at of the stubble turnips/ kale has been drilled , mainly for sheep keep in the coming winter months ! Just waiting for the weather to settle now so we can have a look at the wheat

  3. Harvest 2017 going reasonably well at the minute , with all the barley now cut and baled up , attention now turning to rape , yesterday with all the rain we managed to get the combine back to the yard for a top up with diesel and also brought back the bowser at the same time for a refill ,  the headers gone straight into  the workshop ready for fitting the side knife , with all this done   yesterday evening combine rolled down to the 1st field of rape late this afternoon ! With the balers back from baling all Oakley's straw we decided to shoot off and bale 16 acres of silage ,with tractors running thin on the ground at the moment the old jd came off the straw chopper to do a bit of hauling !!! Looks like another unsettled week weather wise gonna be a stop and start one we reckon !!

    Harvest Log Day 5

Winter Barley successfully completed-glad to see that done, changed the headers over and side knives on and managed to get down to Selvinge and make a start on DK Extrovert, yields looking very promising for a dry year, spot yield at 4.6t/ha! Had a mishap with Chris's header during transport, a good response from Vaughan Agri saw us up and running in half an hour but further repairs needed tomorrow so header back to the yard tonight. Now rained off but got 30 acres off the first 40 acre field. Looking like Orchard managed to finish baling the barley up and the chaser working hard to stack everything up. An unsettled weekend ahead so planning on pulling the sub soiler through places where the Maus loaded wholecrop and if we get there start the winter barley bale stacks, Phil is still keeping the Topdown going through wholecrop stubbles. Catch up with you all next week!

Good to see all going well down yonder

  5. Whole crop well underway now nearly all our own cut , just 35 acres left , still 160 acres to go for the AD plant to go with the moisture levels now starting to fall a must for us to get this wrapped up quicker sooner than later ! The combine came out yesterday to start winter barley , with 3 trailers running the combine wheels getting pushed hard ! 1st load yesterday tested  at 13% so this has gone straight in to the  tipping pit , anything coming off higher than 14% ish will go into the shed with all eyes monitoring what happens !!   Looks like a late  1 with all the thunder showers forecast , must keep on rolling !!! A total of 150 acres to come off then probably go straight into the rape ! Everything been stretched to the limit at the mo , so we've got 1 of smarts 6210r's on hire to help with the work load !

  7. With all 1st cut silage well and truly behind us and the 1st signs of 2 nd cut not too far away ,a chance for the balers to get into gear last week , with both square balers in full flow , baling up a mixture of haylage & hay a total of 400 acres all done and dusted in the last 10 days for various customers . The round baler & wrapper also been out over the weekend , totaling around 190 acres all wrapped up back around the farm and rented ground . A wet day today saw the lads on hauling bales back to orchards rearing  units . A phone call from Oakley's saw 2 of the lads off down there helping Alex and the lads hauling out compost . A slight change in the foreseeable future for us as discussions are ongoing about a perhaps change in tractor brand ,  mainly due to the niggles we've had with the fastrac, which we are locked in talks with smarts over !  we've already decided to get rid of the 936 which was up around 10000 hours and the 818 which was up over 13000 hours , these 2 went at the beginning of the week , meetings with smarts Agri , redlynch , buglers & g& s crooks will continue as to see what is on offer , so exciting times ahead !!

  8. Latest update ! Silage 2017 in full swing now after a couple of in different days , last week we managed to clear 7 customers farms totaling around 800 acres running both foragers and teams , this weekend back at Orchard chopping through our own , yesterday all grass which was mowed Thurs/Fri was spread after heavy thunder showers through the early hours of sat morn , afternoons job crack on and rake up in front of the forager which started picking up around 4 yesterday afternoon , after  a few problems with the forager and a visit from Smarts Agri sorting out the issue , we were soon underway again !  hoping to finish off early this evening leaving the chaps to have a well earned break tomorrow ,
