Eurodeere
Found some info on the new John Deere engines to comply with the Tier IV legislation, interesting reading: From Farm Industry News: www.fin.com/tierIVsolution/release John Deere announced today a major change in its plan to comply with the imminent Tier IV diesel emission regulations: gas engines. Named the “Advanced Power Series,†starting with the 2011 models all John Deere tractors from the 8 series down will have the option of a gasoline engine, spark plugs and all. But this isn’t the 4230 gas you grew up hating. Deere says these motors have nothing in common with any off-road gas engine you have ever seen: They are all direct-injected, just like many European sports cars. Injecting fuel at 10,000 psi after the valves have closed improves fuel economy 10%, they say. They use positive-displacement (ie. Roots-style) superchargers. (Deere says turbo chargers were prototyped, but made too much heat.) Depending on tractor model, some are V-10 configured, with hints of V-16’s to come for the 9 series. With IVT, a fast-spinning engine is no longer a liability. More RPM = more power. They are air-cooled. Deere engineers were able to get power, clean exhaust, and reliability without a cooling system that requires maintenance; the cooling turbine is gear-driven off of the crankshaft. An added benefit: they will all be E-85 compatible. For more information go to: http://deere.com/tierIV/APS
