  1. i've just picked up this thread and you seem to be doing quite well on the Farm.

I started by milking Dairy cows when i was about 13/14 (25 now) loved it, got to know most of the cows, though i was always more interested in the machinery, slowly but surely i got to master each one. The farmer i worked for had Fiats. Started off in the 88-94 and was the newest tractor on the farm. Allways wanted to drive the BIGGER 180-90 fiat and one day out of the blue i got asked to spread slurry using it and a 1500 Gallon Star tanker with sluddigator. Can remember it to this day.

To cut a long story short, the farmer is building you up to the bigger machinery. Its a lot of responsibility!!! Believe me i have got myself into some very sticky situations and its beacuse of my experience i managed to get myself out of them.

Unfortunately im no longer working on the farm as the farmer in question sold up, but i do help him out in the summer when hes bailing etc for horsie people ha ha!

Best job i ever had!!! Enjoy it while it lasts!!!!!!

  2. first off all i apologise if this is in the wrong forum.

Im planning on building a Model Farm, particulary a silage setup, with a open clamp, a few implement sheds and a field or 2.

I have drew a good few layout plans but have scrapped them all. I don't know a good size of board to start off with as im limited to space. Biggest would be 6x6.

Does anyone have any suggestions on layouts or photos that i could take a bit of imspiration from.

Where would be the best place to get grass like carpet for the fields?

    thanks

  3. god, Greenmount still doing that safe tractor driving course.

I remember doing it a good few years ago (9 or 10), at the time they were using case's a few 5140's and cannot remember the smaller models. 2 Days of fun though and learnt a bit. Well worth doing.

  4. very nice!!

slurry seems to be going on a bit on the heavy side?

this was one of my favourite jobs on the farm. Remember doing it in frosty mornings, up from 5:30 and spreading right through the day if ground conditions were ok.
