Next up is this ih 845XL, after a chat with 844 john if i turn this into an 885XL it will not be correct, i knew the front grill was wrong as well as the rear wheels and the wheelbase is wrong, the 845XL is a bigger tractor than the 885,but Johns vast knowledge has raised some other points i never new about, so i either keep it as it is allthough the rear wheels would still need to changed imo for a 845,or i carry on with an inaccurate 885XL. I have bought an atlas ford 5000 for its rear wheels that are right for a 885 and an exhaust that is right for a 885, luckily i got the atlas ford 5000 for only £14 so no hardship if i dont use it or i will re sell it, still undecided what to do🤦♂️

Guys. No home built model is going to be 100% perfect. You can only try your best to alter/modify one model in to another and use the best /nearest thing to do so. They ain't nothing really out there to suit an 885 exactly. But the 845 is pretty much the best of what's available to give it a try.. Give it a go Paul. ...Its worth a try..
i will be doing it Justin and im getting fed up with modern kit, you need a lot of room to display it,so its another model to do👍

Feel a little responsible as I said it was close the other day. I wasn't as aware of the all the details differences that John's pointed out, but for me it's close enough at least until we start getting proper models of Doncaster tractors. Fingers crossed.
Yes i certainly didnt know but will still go ahead, i knew the front grill is different and where the ih badge is needs painting black, different rear wheels, which i have, different exhaust and i need new bonnet decals, the difference in wheelbase is 22 cm so in 1/32 is 0.6/0.7mm

I will pm you later if thats ok

As I said Paul, I don’t mean to interfere, it’s just I’ve looked at doing something similar myself in the past and realised it wasn’t worth the work for me, but I certainly wouldn’t say whether you should do it or not. No, our 844 was one of the last and it was actually built in Doncaster as the transferred production there in the latter years. My father also has one, but a few years older and his was built in Germany I believe, in all honesty it’s probably better finished than the UK built ones
Your not interfering John glad you pointed the facts out i am tempted to still go ahead though, usually i like things right but this one wont be accurate

Was your 845 an import

Do i keep it as a 845 John?

And also that the front grill is different

Just a little word of caution Paul, I don’t like to stick my nose in but the 885 has a much shorter wheelbase and bonnet than the 845 which is basically the same as the 844. Also, the lower grill and side panels on the 885 is completely different, as are the cab interiors and rear linkage. We’ve had both tractors in the past (still have the 844actually) and the differences between them is very noticeable, unless you do major surgery on the 845 it will never resemble the 885 I’m afraid. Like I say, I’m not wanting to interfere, it’s just that I’ve grown up with these tractors and know them pretty well, what looks on the face of it to be a relatively simple conversion isn’t unfortunately
Was aware of the wheelbase difference John but not the other stuff🤦♂️

First problem is going to be getting the cab off with out making any damage, the cab is not screwed on like uh models, it still has tabs coming through above the rear wheels but the tabs are glued on, might be able to cut the tabs off
