  1. Paulali,

Fair enough, but the two-wheel drive 7810 tractor you've shown has been repainted at some point in its life. The front grill is the incorrect colour (it should be Ford Tractor Grey not black) and the steps have been repainted blue instead of the correct black.

    Hope that clears it up.

You make some very valid comments ref the advertising content of Classic Tractor.

It is correct to say that the number of pages of advertising has increased as the years have gone by, but so too have the number of editorial pages. We are currently running in the region of 80 pages of editorial each month, a significant increase on the earlier issues.

The number of pages of display advertising has remained fairly constant, but the number of pages of classified adverts has increased in recent years, especially in the past 18 months. Our readership had indicated that they would like to see more classified adverts in the magazine and we responded to this by making it easier to send them in and also signposting the section a little better.

There is some good news for you in the September issue Archbarch because we have a special section dedicated just to County!

  3. Powerrabbit,

Yes, they are quite valuable, but seem to go up and down. I sold  a couple of doubles from the 1960s on eBay about 18 months ago for just £30 each. However, they subsequently reappeared at Cheffins vintage sale 6 months later and made between £200-£300 each! At the more recent Cheffins sale, I bought a 1960s edition and a 1970s edition for, I think, about £160 each, for a friend who was terminally ill but loved collecting old agricultural books and magazines (he's since sadly died).

So there's no rhym or reason, but the book in the T&M is reasonably priced at £60.

Your story sounds familiar. A lot of Green Books I have in my collection are ex-College libraries or organisations like the HSE, who would buy the latest edition every year.

I once got about 15 from the HSE at Nottingham who were moving to new premises, couldn't believe my luck as it was a fantastic haul. They were also disposing of a about a filing cabinet load of leaflets dating back to the mid-1960s. It took me ages to process and file them away.

  5. Dear RichardJW1,

I am very familiar with the Green Books and have been collecting them for about 15-20 years. It was launched in 1951 and continued until about 1991/1992, as far as I can gather, at which point the price had risen to £125 (and I don't think there were any pictures in the later volumes, just spec. They are actually harder to find than the earlier editions, probably because of the price and limited circulation.

There was a main Winter edition, published in time for the Smithfield Show, followed by a thinner Summer update. Each had its own Volume number.

I am missing about half a dozen of the winter editions and quite a few summer editions.

An excellent book packed with pictures of tractors and machinery.

  6. Dear FNHIR,

I think you may be correct, John Kearney is related in some way to the owners of Kearney Bros, the Deutz agents in the Fermoy area.

This is but one of many stories John is working on for us in the Republic. After years of patchy coverage from the Republic of Ireland, I'm just pleased to have a regular contributor on board who can provide our many Irish readers with some features closer to home.

  7. Dear Blue Man

Thanks for the comments. You are absolutely right. The red County was built by County Tractors of Knighton who were owned by the Benson Group, who took over County Tractors of Fleet in late 1987.

We've done our homework on this model and spoken to former engineers, etc, although in the absence of any production records it's difficult to say exactly how many were made, give or take one or two.

Ref the Ford and Fordson expo, we've got a photographer and reporter at the event and will be running a report in the next issue, all being well.

  8. MDFord, ref back issues, I know the feeling. Sundial Magazines have always sent me about 75 a month to distribute to people involved in the magazine. Usually about 50 get sent out, sometimes more, but I seem to have a massive stack of magazines now going back to the very early days of issues No.1 and No.2. I did purge a few some time ago but still have stacks and stacks.

An earlier poster mentioned the red County 1184 at Cheffins on 24 April. Excuse the plug but we've got the full story of this tractor in the next issue, a good 5-pager.

Plus our MF 390 makes its comeback, fully finished and looking good after an epic rebuild.

Glad you are all enjoying the latest issue and thanks for your support.

  9. Lovely brochures, Marky. I've got the English/export ones, but the Australian brochures are all new to me. Never seen any of them before. Very nice, especially the MF 135/148 brochure. Want, want, as they say.

I hope to be able to send you some pics of my latest finds at MF....some lovely export brochures and stuff I've never seen before, although obviously not ancient, probably back to the early 1990s.

  10. Lord F

Lovely MF 1805 brochure....one that I don't have but would like. Was watching it on eBay and it made good money. I am loving this thread....really good to see what other people are buying and have.

I am hoping to collect a pretty big haul of recent MF product literature on Thursday, mainly from the past 5 years, but likely to include quite a lot of overseas material, so will try and get some pictures of that and post them up.

I think there may be some Turkish tractor literature, possibly non-MF stuff, which sounds really interesting and just up my street, the more unusual the better.

    I'll keep you posted.

  11. Nashmach,

Ref the Case 2294, you don't miss much, do you? Neil Threadgold, the owner of the Case 2294, has just bought a NH TM175. I think he faniced a bit more comfort and is hoping that the TM175 behaves itself.

As for the Ford 6630, not sure about that. I'll see if anyone at New Holland knows the details. It has certainly been a talking point, though, so perhaps it has worked well as an advert?

    Regards

    Rory
