dalethecaptain
Theft from farms has always been a problem. When I was 11 (that would be 1987) the farm near us in Cumbria had a 6 month old Deere 2140 and that was locked in the shed every night along with the other machines. When the guys arrived for milking at 0500 the number plate was lying in the yard. It vanished, never seen again. Our local Bobby reckoned his team had likely past it been driven out of the county, and never batted an eyelid. A lot of the rural team in Cumbria spend all day chasing missing equipment, it rarely turns up in the county, and apparently it either ends up in North Africa or eastern Europe. The local Police are very thinly stretched these days, especially in rural areas, its not even a deterrent. There was a spate of gate thefts in January this year, and there was only one single man rural beat car in all the Furness area, the other 2 officers were off doing ethnic sensitivity training or some such, about 2 dozen steel gates went in 3 days.
