Is there a (decent) model truck forum?

Recommended Posts

I've been a member on Truck Model Forum fot a while, it isn't too bad but not the content that there is here for this hobby. Which I have to say surprised me given the amount of model trucks there are out there.

Bazzamattaz  I like that one Trissle :)

Want to build a some trailers for the 1/32 Scania's I got, but have no idea about trucks!!!

Thought if I looked at other people work, maybe I could find some hint and tips.

Also have contemplated buying some 1:50 scale stuff and copying that....... just from looking on ebay, found that WSI stuff looks rather nice.

Want to make,

- a bulk tipper trailer for wheat and beet

- a "Skelly"

- maybe a livestock trailer

all in 1/32.......but finding parts in this scale might be a problem!!!

A skelly is easy as a Newray trailer is pretty much there unless you want to make a functional sliding skelly of course.

I'll be making an STAS style plank sided bulker for the Scania I am tinkering with at some point, just need to get to a yard I know to measure one up. Should be fairly straight forward I'd have thought.

Given your tractor conversion work, you'll make them with ease mate I'm sure! :)

As many collectors (certainly me) have collections which don't exactly fit in with the conventional divisions of collecting communities there may not be any forums, or even blogs, which exactly fit your interests, so it may well be the case that you'll have to join several forums, follow lots of bloggers, and visit all of them as often as you have time to do, and just hope that you find stuff on each of them occasionally.

Yes, it gets depressing sometimes, but we can only look at what other people choose to post.

a lot of it can be made but you may struggle to get wheels in a suitable style

Your right, wheels and mudguards are my concern, might have to look at some newray trucks to take apart.

Thats it then, i'll have a look into getting a Newray trailer and see what can be done.

This is the kind of bulk trailer I want to make, the mudguards on the trailer are what I may find difficult finding, but maybe the rear mudguards from a Newray truck tractor unit will do the job?

Newray are doubles but you won't find many like them in real life anymore, especially on bulkers like the photo you posted, Barry. The chassis on a Newray trailer would suit that type of trailer as the bulker isn't stepped like many are. So that keeps the building of it a bit easier. I have found pipe in builders centres which are a good match for mudguards like that too but again, Newray trailers sometimes have them, have a look at their triaxle tankers - they may be almost perfect if maybe a little long..

I have bought a green Volvo in there with a similar trailer before come to think of it. Looking at that trailer, if you cut off the overhang behind the rear most axle, the length would not be far off at all ^_^

  • 2 weeks later...

for 1:50 http://modeltruckworld.co.uk/

for 1:24 and 1:50 http://forum.truckmodelworld.com/default.aspx?g=forum

and http://www.24thscalemodeltruckforum.co.uk/index.php despite the name it caters for 1:50, 1:32, 1:24 but the thing is 99.9% of model lories are in 1:24 or 1:50 and its really only the lads wanting some for farms that tend to be into the 1:32 though I think years ago Esci or someone produced a 1:32 plastic volvo kit with a skelly and container but its an 80's model (I'm too young  )
