Nice to see a few 'farming folk, who'd managed to get away from their real jobs for an hour or two and of course, the regulars Sue, David and Peter (who walked passed without even saying hello... unforgivable Mr PDH!). I think this show has a great future. In my opinion the quality and variety of good it's improving with every show. Well done to Stu and the team at Bulldog Fairs! Second time round I was under strict time constraints as Mrs H was waiting for me in the car park. Usual sellers had very little stock though I was impressed with the items on your stand Mandy. If I'd had more time I'd been very tempted by quite a few items. Will catch up with you at the next show. First toy fair/event I've been to for 9 months. Trying to catch up with things. Sorry I found very little of interest, plenty of trains but not my thing. We'll see what Westpoint is like in 3 weeks. Up to 300 stands I believe. david_scrivener Posted June 10, 2012 Share Posted June 10, 2012 It seemed like the usual mixt of stands, although a bit fewer than normal, which was especially noticable up on the balcony. As with any toy fair, antiques fair, car boot sale or whatever, it is largely a matter of luck as to whether it is peceived as good or bad, depending on whether you've found something good/cheap, or one those items you've been looking for for ages. I didn't find anything in the last category, but got a nice little wooden farmyard for £20 (with the last plastic items listed below thrown in the deal), which was a bit basic, so clearly a bargain basement version when made, possibly circa 1960. I wouldn't normally have bought one so 'toy-like', but it had a few design details which suggested it might have been made by the same unknown people who made the farm buildings for Britains 1959-62. Another buy, also £20, was a boxed set of Britains 2nd grade lead cowboys & indians. circa 1946-50? Plus a selection of odd figures from various stands: Britains lead boar & sow #596 in pink, girl with bucket #747, tan overalls, all 3 items excellent condition & cheap! Wendal aluminium Jersey cow, brown bear & zebra. F.G.Taylor flock covered lead Shire horse and smaller horse. I did meet up with an old friend in the car park quite by chance when I parked my car alongside his! I did manage to get a few items although there was a shortage of traders - at least two of the regulars were missing. But I did have a good day and managed to spend rather more than I anticipated as there were a couple of new traders with nice pieces. At the last one I bought absolutely nothing but generally Shepton is a good venue for me despite being a long drive. I rounded off my day by meeting up with David and delving (I think that is probably the best word) into his enormous collection. I left with two buildings for Leakey Vale and one gorgeous small-scale house for Lilliput Vale. Thanks Dave! Yes - this was a good show and a great day out.
