JC
The sea horse will float and is capable of crossing the channel as it did in July 1963 \ It did the 28 mile crossing in about 8 hours. The bulky things front and rear are air tanks, as are the centres of the wheels and in addition the oversize tyres all add to the bouyancy of the vessel! You have to ask Jason... why - the ferry doesn;t cost a lot and you can get breakfast on the way over
JC
Also notice the tyres on the wrong way around, this was to aid propulsion, in addition it's got an extended breather pipe on the air intake and if you took time to have a look around it you may have noticed it had no electrics either. JC
I know they were used for exploration work etc, handy as they were good on both land and water. I would imagine they saw some service with the RNLI too as they were big County lovers at one time. Nigel fords version;
