BC
There is a week in August in the Orkney Islands known as show week which see the Dounby agricultural show take place on the thursday followed by the County show in Kirkwall on the Saturday and finally the Orkney Vintage Club at the mart on the Sunday. So far I have attended the two agricultural shows and was surprised at the size of some of the machinery that was being used on the Island. I'll start with photographs from the Dounby show which was held in the village of Dounby which is situated just north of the Loch of Harry and 14 miles North West of Kirkwall. First a look around the fair ground to see what lorries the showmen are using. It used to be predominately Foden's and ERF's and whilst they had some ERF's there were also some DAF's and Renault Magnums.
BC
There was a stall selling land rovers and lorries etc made out of thin plywood and I commented it would make a nice stall for the new model show at Oldmeldrum in November but thought well too far to come and they would not know where "Meldrum" was.....I was taken aback when the younger chap said he used to stay in Methlick and the two quite fancies a weekend in Aberdeen What a small small world so you never know we might see then dow to the show on Saturday 29th November 2014. BC
In between afternoon and evening but saw this cruise liner at Kirkwall. I had a walk back up to show park in the evening to see the float parade and got a lift back to the guest house from Brian Stewart in the ice cream van since he was staying at the same place as me

BC
Moving on I attended the County show which was held in Kirkwall yesterday. It was rather dull and overcast so I went prepared with wellington's and waterproof trousers and I'm glad I did as it started raining towards the end of the first stunt performance so I decided to pull out and I'm glad I did since the rain got heavier and heavier during the afternoon. It is a much larger show than Dounby and the machinery were set out better in the larger showpark. Despite the rain it did not seem to deter the spectating public.
