Guest Fendt pwr
Same....some times I more into what is being done to a feild rather than what it's being done with. As far as I know over here we don't use them straw spreaders for covering the crop.A guy I go shooting with is a carrot grower, and he just lets his crop sit out in the winter with no straw on top and gose out and diggs the carrots up when they are needed. NewHolland2
That's interesting to know Fendt Power. Does he grow them himself using his own machinery or is he a contractor for someone like Huntapac? Cheers NewHolland2

Guest Fendt pwr
That's interesting to know Fendt Power. Does he grow them himself using his own machinery or is he a contractor for someone like Huntapac? Cheers NewHolland2 He has just brought all the kit needed to grow carrots (planter, digger etc)from a vegtable grower near him how has stoped growing carrots. He dose all the work from tillage to harvesting the carrots on land he rents from his father. The carrots are sold to a local vegtable packing out fit on contract.Afther the carrot crops are dug most farmers around here plant barley then afther the barley crop is off they plant the land down to grass to rest the land. I would have thought that just leaving the ground in a semi compacted state with nothing growing on it would be a poor choice when you take into account the cost of the land?. \
new holland driver
they say they have to own to the fact of the amout of staw they us up here more than nomaley utill it has roughten down you cant do any thing with but thats just what i see around herre may be diffrent in your part of the wold
NewHolland2
All that kit looks very nice but from a long term profit pint of view is the damage to the soil structure worth it? I've put up some pictures (in the most recent gallery) on my fotopic site (http://scottishtractor.fotopic.net) to show what they do to sort out the ground once the harvester has left. Hope this is of use. Cheers NewHolland2
