TYRES 100%tread down to 10%tread / Realistic muck colouring

Guest MF 550

Question

Any of you folks out there ever tried making some tyres more realistic

I.e cutting the treads a bit or balding them off completely

would it make a model more authentic

Also any advice on dirtying up a massey 135 into a hard working scraper tractor- i would be willing to send one to someone to get it done (need one for model farm)

well it would make the tractor look older and that it has a hard working life as you said but if thats what you want then it may be worth a try.

Balding down the tyres would be a good idea. spreading dirt on it and maybe trying to make it look like rust aswell would be good

you want sh1t effect 550? mix up some gravy ,then pour onto a tray & race the tractor through it then leave it to dry , that will give the texture & colour of slurry , other than that just race it round in some water soil mud & leave to dry , when dry, tap the tractor a bit & the excess falls off leaving the finer dirt on :)

Cracking idea Marcus... I reckon I am going to set up my lathe to run constantly against an abrasive wheel.... with some really fine grit paper... should take the tyres down but keep them looking polished  :-\

What kind of tyres are you going to skim down a bit Marky

I've got some old rubber ones in the shed... I'm, not sure what thet come from in all honesty... If I can perfect a technique I will be happy to "wear" anyones tyres for nuffin  ;)

I have a plan for this.... let's hope it works... I'll post up some pics of the technique if it does work  ;)
