  1. Well guys, my dads thinking about moving, some where a bit smaller to ours with about 50 acres or so, but we're in a debate, we're trying to figure out what the perfect tractor would be?

Now bear in mind that it will need to be able to pull an 8 ton excavator with a tri-axle low-loader and a 12 ton dump trailer, Now my dads thinking a ford 7840/8340 or a TS115A or maybe even a TS110A ?

But we're open to any suggestions! also around the 120 ish hp mark ?  ;D

  2. Ahh yeah, the 6270 was my tractor even though i never liked her, the boss thought it would be alright to not have suspension on it, hours yeah and then i spent 18 discing heavy land and then couldn't walk properly for 2 days afterwards, it was short wheelbase as well so it just seemed to feel the bumps more than our 6465 which was normal wheelbase, and i found myself having to fill up with diesel often, and i'm not sure whether it was bad fuel consumption or it was a small fuel tank, and then in the end it had a lot of fuel trouble, so that's when we bought the Claas Arion 640, got told by the boss it was going to be my tractor since it replaced my tractor, went in a few days later and i was told to go on the 6465 because the other lad had claimed the claas and was telling everybody it was his, that was one of the reasons i left, i'm starting to regret it now though because i'm really, really, really, REALLY starting to miss farming  :-\

    You spent 18 hours discing?

    your 14?

the most i've ever done is 14 hours drawing silage!  ;D

  3. I think I may take a ride up and get it mate.. then again  :D :D

Just won this MF702 transporter... never seen an MF one before... quite interestin really.... and about 'period' for Penny me thinks... only one problem... I've to get up to Preston to collect it  :-[ :'( :'(

Now Now Marky, if you want we might be able to bring it down to cambridge (cheffins) for you?

we're taking down 4 mf290/565's? not sure for definate if they're going down but if they are?

  4. Yeah I agree with Jordan I have to say. A child should not be on a clamp, infact there are very few places on a farm that a child should be. It's all very well having someone 'supervise' but with a child going over the back of (what can be up to a 15ft) silage clamp, no supervisor can be close enough nor stop it. It's principle but sadly few people respect principles these days and too many people question them.

Well i can't disgree with what Tris is saying but i want to say this, Yes we are young, but most of us have been brought up around machinery and know the dangers, and we wouldn't be trusted with such a machine if we weren't capable enough would we? ???

also i do alot of jobs in the fields around the yard and i know the limits of the machine! :)

  5. 200 acres lifted fri-sat lunch time, and today i'm following the mower men because i have the wonderful job of tedding  :-\  Thank god for radio 1 and iPads  :D

  6. Ahh yeah thanks very much Mark! I am not sure but i think they call them utility vehicles which might be why there legal on the road!

    I see , thanks!

Intresting Marky, thats one of the reason i want a gator or somthing as you can get a full cab on them!

    Thanks everyone!

your right it's classed as an utility vehicle BUT  you can legally drive on the road in one if YOU'VE got a tractor licence was asking Ashley today and he said it's one of the many loop holes he always carrys around a bale of hay or something thought so if he does get stopped he's "just going to check the sheep" or he's taking some tools to fix a tractor somewhere :-X

  7. kirkstone pass (roughly translated as, if you look at the stunning scenery, you will crash and have time to phone home on your way off the edge....mind the cyclist)

oh yeh, try going up kirkstone pass in winter with all the snow to tescue a stretched HUMMER limo :o

  8. Right i am nearly 16 and will be able to go and do my tractor licence, but the thing is will i be allowed to drive a quad bike that's registered as an agricultural vehicle on the road?

From what i can see you have to be 17, but i know people who have been insured to drive them on the road at 16 and my employer said his insurance said they would aswell.

Another thing is would a John Deere gator ect be classed as an atv?

I hope some one can make this clear  :)

You can DEFFINATELY drive a JD Gator on the road at 16, it's classed as an atv i think, Ashley that works for my dad takes the gator home with him sometimes and he's 16 ;)

But i think you have to do a course with the atv's first though, not to sure i'll ask tomorrow for you Cerin  ;)
