Cool. Where can you get that stuff?

OK, but if you say that the MF based ones had only MFT on them because Moffet had sold the tractor business, how come the later Ford ones have Moffet written all over them? In fact, what I think happened was, the idea was developed by a farmer and taken on by an engineering firm in Co.Louth. This company then sold out at least the tractor enterprise to Moffet, who changed the skid unit to a Ford (much better I think!)
There are two reasons behind my theory:
1: A department guy who came to our farm last year told my dad and brother that his uncle came up with the original idea, and based it on an old Massey. We didnt get any more details
2: I had a brochure for the MF based ones not so long ago, and reading through it I noticed that it made no mention of Mofffet, and showed a photo of the plant where they were made, with an address in Louth.
I hope that this brief potted history helps

The 'MF based' Moffet was based on an MF industrial driveline, something similar to a digger base. Thats why it doesn't look remotely like a Massey tractor. Can ssomeone clarify if the MF based ones came after the Ford based ones, and does anybody know the reason for the change?? Thanks

I'm on call for my annual joyride next Mon and Tue. I'll be chauffering a Case 895 and an 8 ton Lee trailer.
Oooh, Lee trailer! Used to be all the rage one time. Still a good few around my area. We have two. Do you know if Paddy Lee is still making trailers SPN? His brother is a neighbour of mine.

Tractor is bling bling! What chassis is it based on and who made it?
-
Is it a trailer or a railway wagon ???

that is cool
Have you ever seen any real ones civilpek?

Has anyone noticed how they used the prototype picture of the JD 6920 for ages in the catalogue ( maybe they still do?), with a horrible green plastic cab \. It put me off buying one for ages when they came out, until I saw some photos of the production version, with the proper black frame. They could do with taking a look through their catalogue now and again

A god among men!! ;D Moffets didnt use the Ford/ New Holland cab, but it looks pretty close anyway. Well done!
-
Somehow I think the cab on the 1174 looks a bit wrong, too square or something. It needs glazing too. The rest is spot on though.

Small diameter electronics wire, you can get it from a good electrical outlet.
I agree. Make sure you get single core not stranded core because the single core keeps its shape better

probabably the one on farmmodels.net
Thats the one

Has anybody ever figured out what those funny cast weights that came with the Massey drill were for? I thought maybe they were for on top of the disc part underneath, or were meant to go in the box under the step. I never got a boxed one so I'm not sure if they were just for packaging purposes?
Here's an example:

I'd say its probably an Ertl JD 7810 or similar bonnet on a Britains MX 135 chassis. Thats what the cab looks like, and I remember seeing that done somewhere else before.

ya ive seen them go for around ?90 thats roughly the same as ?40
Howd'ya figure that one out then civilpek? Thats a ?1 to ?0.44 exchange rate!! Its usually more like 65 to 70 pence. Looks like you've been ripped off somewhere. You don't deal with AIB do you?

When I was about eight I got a Ford 8730 for Christmas. It was my pride and joy . Unfortunately I had (and still have) a very destructive toddler brother ( he's not a toddler any more you understand). Anyway, he always wanted to play with my Britains and I had to keep them in a box in a high up cupboard out of reach. One day when I was at school, someone saw fit to give him free reign over my tractors \, and of course he went for the new shiny one.
Obviously noting that the bonnet could be removed, he proceeded to absolutely mangle the rest of the tractor >. To say that he destroyed it would be an understatement . I mean, there was nothing useful left. Imagine the fright I got when I got back from school, I could have strangled the miserable brat.
In a further ironic twist, two years ago he managed to buy one of the last ones at a show, for his own collection (he's given up the spare parts business). I tried to convince him that he owed it to me but he wasn't having any of it!
Anyway, thats my story of woe, just thought I'd reveive this post

I can never understand why Britains made the chassis out of flimsy plastic and the body out of heavy die cast, it makes no sense. As for the rams, I've seen two and both had really stiff rams. You could break the chassis pulling them out, plus its hard to know when theyre up to the last, which isnt very high anyway. I also had the same problem with the rams on a JCB Farmaster, no amount of three-in-one oil would convince them to free up. As for your trailer jmgs22, theres no way I would accept that kind of breakage, even if I had to wait a while before I could bring it back.

You'd have to post the whole page, it's some sort of collage ( ie a whole lot of pictures stuck together into one, not the other college). Probably to stop people stealing his pictures (esp THAT one!!!)
