  1. Thanks for all the comments, I am very pleased with how it has tured out. Next is some paint, If anyone has any tips on how to make it look used and abused like the ones that have scrap squashed into them I will gladly listen!

I will post up more photos as and when but I don't think progress will be that fast!

  2. I know this is not strictly farm related but it is the first thing I have completley scratch built and wanted some feedback.

I have in my mind one day to do a large demolition diorama and this is the start.

This in 1/50 scale. I am sure that a similar item in 1/32 scale would look good in a farm diorama for the scrap mans visit! :D

The rear door is hinged and the rear rollers move.

    The pictures

  3. Nothing that has not been done before but I wanted one for myself :)

Having received a new roof without the hole for the steering knob from PDC I have finished this tractor.

    Things I have done...

Removed Siku front linkage, cut away chassis and fitted front weichts from PMA 32.

Cut off rear linkage and fitted realistic working linkage from PMA 32

Removed steering rod that was through the cab.

Added controls and detail to the interior.

    Replaced cab roof.

    Fitted grab rails.

I will also add a number plate to the rear fender when I get some decal paper.

  4. lovley pics mate

    were are u based??

and what was wrong with the topper gearboxes??

We are based near Epsom in Surrey.

The Topper was only a year old when I took those photos and the oil would not stay in the gearboxes. After a couple of hours hard work it would be forced out of the breathers!

Eventually the dealer replaced the oil with grease and it has been fine ever since.

  5. i bet you had to take a dump trailer to move some of them  ::) did many fall apart then?

Any bust bales we left lying there. They were being cleard up by a badly driven JCB 3CX! :D :D

  6. how long did it take you to drive to there then  :o i bet you didnt get to go flat out in london with all the cars and the protest  :D;)

It took just over an hour to drive there which wasn't too bad. It would not have made much difference what we were driving as most of the time was spent folowing the car in front!

  7. Hey, loving that picture, might be my new wall paper  ;) ;)

Just wishing I had taken my camera with me today, rushed out of the house and forgot it so just had my phone. :( :(

  8. Very different.  ;D

Did you have to pay congestion charge?  ;D

Yes we did have to pay! :D

A great topic richo I bet that was fun getting to southwark today, where is your farm based then as I know south london and east surrey quite well.

And I love your dog I have a yellow lab too.

We are based in Banstead near Epsom. To get there today we went through Mitcham, Balham, Clapham, Vaxhaull and Waterloo. Got some strange looks! :D :D

My dog is great fun, wouldn't be without one now.

  9. A few photos from today... And something a little different!

Its not everyday that you get to take three tractors and trailers into central London!

We had to pick up 800 bales of straw from in front of the Tate Modern art gallery. The straw was used over the weekend as part of the course for stunt cycling, the event was sponsored by Nissan. Half of the bales were ok and we will find a home for them but the others were like sponges after the heavy rain we had.

St Pauls and the Millennium bridge can be seen in the background.

  10. There are a lot round about me in Surrey, but the most surprising one is near Reigate. They only do bale wrapping and in the winter fencing. I think they run four wrappers, 2 big square bale and two round bale. It would pickle my brain just wrapping bales day after day!! What makes it worse is that they have old Zetors :D although they did buy a new MF last year.

  11. On the subject of cars and tractors, there is no law relating to the number of cars behind you, you could have 100 cars behind you and still not be prosecuted.........however if you had 100 cars behind you and had gone past a safe lay-by in which you could have pulled over and didn't then you can be prosecuted for inconsiderate driving.

If you pull over in a junction its classed as obstruction of the public highway so that's another offence, if you pull over on the verge, who's to say it isn't soft enough to get bogged or that there isn't something tyre puncturingly nasty lurking in it, pulling over in someones driveway is tresspass as its private property so you're really stuck with lay-bys and some of them just aren't big enough to pull into or safe enough where they are near corners. Size of lay-bys is a big problem these days as they often aren't long enough or wide enough to get off the road safely in, especially with something like a combine or terragator.

There was a motor cyclist killed here several months back when he slammed into the side of a Fastrac pulling out of a lay-by after letting cars past, of course the family blame the driver of it (a family friend with years of experience) as he didn't have his beacon on not the motor cyclists fault for massively exceeding the speed limit so he couldn't stop in time. Nigel had checked for traffic and saw nothing, even witnesses agree with him, and beacons are not a legal requirement on a Fastrac. The lay-by is just round a corner and the family now want it closed, there have been no other accidents in that location and its the only place to pull over safely on a stretch of road  lasting approx 6 miles so surely if they closed it more accidents may be caused through impatience

    Regarding the above accident..

A friend of mine in Nottingham who was driving tractor and bale trailer in the dark last year after harvest had to turn left into a narrow gateway. He pulled over onto the grass verge well before the gate and walked to open the gate. Then after checking his mirror indicating right and checking again he pulled back onto the road. Still indicating right and looking over his shoulder to check the road was clear he went onto the wrong side of the road then indicated left to turn into the gateway at this point a car was approaching but flashed his headlights so tractor continued into the gateway while first car waited and so did two others (all from the same direction). When the tractor and half the trailer was off the road driver heard a loud bang. On getting out he found a motorcyclist on the floor covered in blood. Motorcyclist was going far too fast and overtook the three waiting cars, never saw the trailer......

After several police interviews and two court apperances trying to prosecute the tractor driver the case was thrown out of court as being entirley the motorcyclists fault.

It amazes and worries me that the case got so far!!

Why bother when people don't thankyou and just abuse you keep dogging on is what i say and i think its every 3rd layby you have to pull in at not a gateway of someones drive so if you do get pulled in just say you couldn't find anywhere safe to pull in  ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D

In the areas that we spend a lot of our time on the roads such as Croydon etc on the outskirts of London there is so much traffic that if you were top pull in you would never get back onto the road safely again, so just turn up the radio ignore them and keep on going. ;) ;)

  12. Glad to see you've taken the time/ pride in your work to get the sockets etc level and square!

A few weeks ago i was decorating a friends house which has been totally renovated and extended and not one of the electrical fittings were square. If it had been my house they would have been redoing it all before they got paid! >:( >:(

  13. Wow What lovely pictures. I can see that i will be spending a lot of time lookink through all of them!

I have added the site to my favorites.

Some of the photos have brought back some nice memories esp the sugar beet images. I never did enjoy hoeing beet but it was satisfying at the and of the day. In a strange sort of way i miss it.

I look forward to some more updates.
