Doesn't slow us down at all, the farm we do it for run short of outdoor feed this time of year for his sheep so our contractors top saver leaves the tops in one piece but in the field, these ones in the picture you would need at least 2 trailers for so it becomes more labour intensive than leaving them in the field. Can be quite a valuable additive to the feed ration during the winter though.

  2. It is a top saving elevator, our contractor uses something similar so the sheep have more to eat, flailed up tops aren't so good. One like is shown there would usually have a trailer under it, and you would set the topper slightly higher so as not to pick so much soil or so many stones up, gets a bit crunchy otherwise  :D :D ;)

  3. we decided to go the other way and down size the tractor, gave us another general purpose tractor, A fendt 930 is still too big and heavy to be used for things like rolling. If it wasn't for the need of another tractor like that we would have stuck to a bigger tractor like an MX240 but this seemed like the better option. Besides a MX240 would look daft on a 6m set of rolls!!  :D :D :D;)

  4. i'll certainly agree with that, my one had been tweaked to 240hp, so it would pull the plough and press at 10kph quite easily, we never did find anything to make it struggle too much. would pull right down to 1000rpm then if you dropped a gear it would pick straight up again with no trouble

  5. it was and it wasn't- the Case would sit in the barn half the year as it was too big to use for other jobs besides ploughing and trailer work, with only a 1000rpm PTO and no pick up hitch her workload was restricted. whereas the Renault gets used for everything from rolling and pasture topping to ploughing and top dressing. The Renault is much more comfortable to drive as well and despite being a smaller setup i can still get just as much done in a day as it is more manouvrable

  6. Thats ok. It was the same with my Nuffield as that was a TVO model, took a while to find the right spark plugs, and then they were ?16 each, never did find new mud guards for it so we had to re-engineer some off a later model. Its the only downside to restoring a rarer model tractor.

  7. theres a few people up my way who seem to accumulate tractors for breaking, i know one of them had some fergies about there last time i was having a poke about his yard...Atkin Farm Machinery if you want any details for him just ask... ;)

  8. Very nice, i desperately wanted a demo of one of them before we bought the Renaults, but every time we were due to have it, the previous farm bought the demonstrater!! not once but twice it happened!! ?:D :D

  9. ross were massive in the case/ih hire about 5 years ago they had well over 300 tractors on there hire fleet. from kent? to scotland .. As i said on here a few weeks ago we are having 2 new valtras . valtas come in 5 diffrant colours I wonder if new holland will give farmers the option of having new hollands in case red ....I reacon claas should do theres in zetor red too ( soz gavin )..

    Now thats really nasty!! Although we have had the dealer out for the past week servicing our two, and repairing the Carraro front suspension on one, only to find the ball joints were shot too, checked mine tonight only to find i had the same problem, but thats a minor thing for once!! Still say they are a good tractor, never had any major trouble with what wasn't under warranty unlike some who have head gasket problems on them, mentioning no names... ;)

    But about here Valtra still have a seperate dealer to Fendt and MF, JD still have a presense here but its declining with Mccormick replacing some, in one case the blokes fight over who isn't going to drive it!! New Holland are getting popular over this side of Norfolk but case are non existant

  10. i bunged the drum up on the Lexion this year for the first time. Told the boss 2 minutes earlier that the straw on the wheat was getting too damp but, as usual he said keep going, so i did. Well started unloading in a trailer when the whole drum stalled which killed the combine, one was not amused!! But dragged a bit out by hand, opened up the concave and away she went with an almighty lump thankfully!! Cleared easier than i thought it would.? :)

    Nice to see the comments on the older combines. Nice to hear a little how we go to where we are today with the technology. Like Gavin said these days the differences between the walker and rotaries are very few and far between. Unblocking a Gleaner though is a sinch!! Sorry to hear about your stories of blocking rotaries solid but in a gleaner you can either pull the drum out the side of the machine or open up the drum housing from inside the engine bay, either way it's pretty easy. I bunged up our TX32 one year in really dry OSR, sliced me hands to pieces on the fibres, paper cut's galore!!

    I know all about that if you read my ealier post here about blocking our Lexion solid with OSR stalks in the straw walkers and chopper, not good is it!? :(
