John there are two types of Border Fine Arts figurine made. Classic and Studio. The Classic ones are the more expensive ones and these are all limited in number. These are sculpted and molded and made in Langholm but  production may actually now be in Carlisle.

The "cheaper" Classic ones are still sculpted and initial mould made in Langholm but production is actually done in China. These models are not usually Limited but I assume this MF390 is because Massey have commissioned it from Border Fine Arts.

thanks for clearing that up Bill I`m assuming thats what they meant then about the chinese ones being cheaper, they should be cheaper being not limited editions

What happened with the Claas for that size of a bill John  :of

twin shift pack, lost drive in the high splitter, I was able to drive it to the dealer , they split it repaired it put it back together and it still wasnt right, it was split again , seem like at my expense too because its charged  at workshop hours.Two titanium , think thats what he said , rings inside hadn`t been changed to start with but they couldnt get any front oil pressure? so had to go back and do them......it`s all beyond me , I`m a cow man not a mechanic .the rings and plates were all warped,mechanic said probably heat did that causing the brass plate to get worn unevenly and break up.the bits  hadn`t got into the forward and reverse pack nor the main gearbox luckily .  It did however have its 1000 hour service two track rod ends pick up hitch cable and one of those door cables in that price but its still a hefty bill. Locally theres a guy got a £9 000 bill from the main dealer for repairs to his NH ...they are all as bad as each other round here.

My Aunt died on tuesday night,it wasnt totally unexpected as she was 86 and had been very ill in hospital, my cousin said they werent expecting her to go so quickly.been a weird time really given its 2 yrs on the 11th since mum died.......funeral is the same date , 17th ......

they used to be made at langholm if I remember correctly.........can`t remember when the manufacturing was "out sourced" to China........We took some  household stuff to auction .there were a lot for sale there  and we asked about them.........Obviously our farming connections the animals in particular are quite handy presents so are sometimes on the look out for bits and pieces.We were told the chinese made ones arent worth half what the older scottish ones are......perhaps just a point to note if some of you guys are looking for an investment

sounds like were back to the age old problem ..........making the models strong enough for a bit of play or highly detailed delicate creatures purely for display.

The above was annoying enough but top that off when postie brought me the bill for fixing my Claas..............just a kick in nuts under £4 000    had thought it would be hefty but no s much as that........., just under £2 000 for labour too !

.I am impressed with the aquarium plants too, a wee brown off as you say and they look well. I had an idea of using lemon grass ,only because I had plenty unused which went all brown and dead looking ,to replicate the maize , it would need covered in varnish tho I suspect to keep it from disintegrating

Tim i see thats a 1450 round baler in the picture? looks very like our old one, a 1440....a beauty in hay or straw but a pig of a machine in silage unless the crop was really almost too wet.

Things might look great in Holland but when you take a closer look I don't think they are at all. Farming over here is just as difficult as in other parts of the world, if not more. We've got some advantages such as (mainly) good quality soil that produces high yields but compared on a worldwide scale it's only a few acres. Every country and their farmers have their pro's and con's.

If I could I would move to the UK tomorrow and start farming over there. Lot more space, nicer landscape, similar yields and more future into farming.

ill be getting one of those ifor williams trailers but everything else is disapointing. the buildings are bog standard, they do need some more impliments though

had my farm assurance inspection today.....   all well gold star so I`m a happy bunny if a cold one FFFFFFFFFFFFfreeezin here today....never got above zero and considering how little snow we have compared to other parts of the country, it really was bitterly cold.

Spoke to a friend from near  Kielder tonight who is snowed in,they spent the day trying to rescue sheep to lower fields estimates they have an 18 inch level cover and its not started to blow yet which is the next stage if it stays so cold he says.my relatives at dunoon have 4 inches at sea level.my cousin at crieff has 18 inches and a broken leg..he fell out of the tractor on the golf course doing what i have no idea.

yes Ol, seen similar here,well 20 miles away.......we actually looked at sending cattle away to winter with this guy......one look at the silage in his pit,a listen to the noisy cattle in the sheds , a quick look at slurry coming up through the slats soon persuaded us it wasnt for us........he arrived late in a 3145 I think it was....... brand new, he had been cutting hedges......he had a MF 4840,several other biggish  MF`s . there was another  rusty tractor vaguely  green  prob a steiger poking out of a shed .massive discs ,flexi coil folding harrows,huge cambridge rollers, a huge liquid fert tank , huge big self propelled chafer sprayer, massive new grain drier and a combine so big  he had to have a police escort to get down the roads here,it was the biggest Dominator back then, can`t remember the number, I  didn`t get to see it.everything had to be big They were trying to emulate the big grain farms......one of the brothers was in canada for a while.they used to say on of them had a TV and fridge in the tractor cab.....he actually slept in it too, I know that`sright cos the mechanic we used to work with did some of his work.

they turned  a steep but decent stock farm into an arable one , rented 3 big flat farms down by the sea, tried to grow beet,wheat, oilseed rape.they didnt last 5 years. incidentally an irishman bought one of the farms , the one we were at to see the masstock sheds...he had cattle but grew tatties.he too had a rough time and at least twice out of his first 4 years they went unharvested!

think this tells us make the best of what you have eh  rather than try to make it something it`s not 

thanks for that guys , didnt know about the fens................yes well with land at an obvious premium we could learn a lot about productivity and good management from the Dutch.............everything is going to have to be spot on I would guess...............anyone know anything about Koepon dairies? we have one round here Coopon Carse.......Jan Vos was the manager for a while,he went back to Holland though........some of the subsequent managers have struggled to come to terms with the farm and the climate round here.....

I`ve modified I should have added, re your specialisation comment Simon, I reckon up here we like to cover ourselves and not have all our eggs in one basket , the land doesnt always allow anything but livestock and would certainly not support every farm with a  holstein dairy ....I have a steep part in every field, wet parts in most , some you cant drain economically because the rock is too near the surface however there are deep fissures and pockets which all hold back water.Yes i accept the laser guys could come in , blast the rock it is all possible but not economically so..such is the difference i`m assuming in marginal land farming..

he he no, not much, was just thinking though what might be adaptable to do a couple of jobs.pressure washer box might..might also be similar base for a welder,halfed for a electric fencing unit perhaps????? same with chain saw , leaf blower , post hole auger, petrol grinder..........just ideas mind 

having seen some of your recent introductions between you and Frazer I`d not imagine this would be too difficult

sounds good already mandy, could I suggest a welder,either with gas bottles or without ? angle grinder?, perhaps the chainsaw could double as a petrol engined disc cutter?bound to be something else..............the noise you hear is me wracking my brain (thats why its so quiet, not much going on up there !!!! )

knew Id remember how about a post hole auger?
