I'm finally able to start producing hay bales, so here are the first pictures :
Compared to a straw bale :
More outside photos to come
This is the first version of a hay bale, there will also be a browner version for older hay/hay that got wet, as well as a darker green version for silage.
As always, feedback will be appreciated.

The straw material is 2£50 for a 30X25X8cm bag. Hay will probably be 3£ a bag, but as the making techniques evolves it may change a bit I'll let you know for sure along with the photos of the final product, very soon all going well

Thanks everybody
I've tried the dust effect before, it works pretty well (I think there are still some photos on my model farm topic ) but being as I now use an SLR camera, I'm sort of reluctant... If I worked out a way of activating the dust flow from a little distance away from were the models are, I suppose I could use a longer lense
superb work mate, can i ask what size are the square bales??? are they mini squares or the big bale squares for say the uh mf2190 or claas qudrant
I make them both. The machine I currently use for the big bales makes them to fit the uh claas quadrant or krone balers. If people are interested in a different size, I would probably make another machine
For the medium density bales, I base myself on the bales we make with our real new holland 376 baler, but I can easily enough make them a different size.
Could you make silage bales too?
Yes, I shall be launching the silage and hay range soon.
I've been looking for something to replicate bale netting, but I haven't yet found anything. I've been told there is some insect netting that you can get in garden centres that would probably do the job, but I've never actually found any \ Your thoughts are welcome on this one

The sun's been out these past few days so I got a few snaps to illustrate this straw a bit more :
Also, I ahev a question regarding hay : what colour do you think scale bales of it should be? I'm thinking of maying dying the sisal into different colours (probably brown, beige, green and grey) and then mixing it up to get something that looks right for different situations such as silage, good hay, hay that's got wet or been left out to long... I'm also thinking of weathering them Any suggestions will be well appreciated
-
When I'm efficient each one takes about 15mins from cutting the sisal string to the end result, but sometimes it can take up to 25mins

For those of you who are still wandering, I am now making these again, in fact I have improved the round bales and changed the twine on the square ones for finer fishing line.
The material of the round bales is now finer, wich makes it even more realistic.
Both types of bales are 1.25£ each.
I shall soon also be producing hay bales, but I am still looking for the exact colour (a subtle mix between brown green and grey I think?).
Note : I am currently nearly out of dark material...

This one really is starting to look dusty. After over a year of inactivity, due mainly to a lack of time I've finally been able to get back to this one. I am currently working on getting the old french "breton" 70's style farmyard up. It shall consist of two mud-walled buildings for the cattle, and a haybarn. I am going to try and pack as many details in as I can think of, and a fair bit of weathering should be involved . Here are a few snaps of the first building, where the calfs used to be kept; I haven't decided yet wether to cover it with corrugated iron or slates ?
One of the A frames, with a future birds nest :
The beginning of the floor :
The start of the weathering process of one of the side doors :
Awindow wich shall be barred up with an old (soon splintered) door and straw :
And just because I liked the picture, one of the future tractors (it's weathering has also started) :
I'll post some larger views as soon as I get a bit of sunshine

No, it's sisal string that I cut to a certain length, glue it on with wood glue and then paint it. It takes quite a long time to do but I like the look of it once it's finished.

Thanks,

I've been back at work on this project for a few weeks now, so here is what I have been up to :
If you want any other specific views, just ask
-
Yep, you're quite Tris, my name is William.
-
Yes, they will pick up with a loader, they're full of "straw" so the teeth go in easy
-
No problem, I forgot to mention in the initial post that I can also sell the material.
-
1.25£/ bale not 25£, what a rip off that would be
-
With the straw season just starting I thought perhaps some people might be interested in a few of these
high density bales for the uh krone baler (I think they also fit the claas) If somebody gives me the measurments i can make them other sizes. The string is not in it's definit form, nots will be smaller as well as the thickness and color.
round bales : they can easily be made to suit any baler and they can be made to any diameter. They look "roled" like the real ones for more realism.
medium density bales :
These are the small bales for the older balers such as a new holland 376. I do not have the exact measurements to suit the 1/32 balers so if someone could give some to me I would be very gratefull.
Scatter material :
All the bales will be made from these two colors.
The light stuff :
The dark stuff : (the bales in photo are made from this)
Price list :
Round bales :
Width 40mm diameter 50mm : 1.25£
High density bales :
To suit the krone baler : 1.25£
To suit other balers : (need the measurments)
Medium density bales :
The ones presented above : 0.20£
For any questions, ask away

I used the valtra C120 chassie from uh. I think it will be a tl90, I quite like them.

This is what has been occupying my spare time lately. The paint isn't very good because dust fell on it (why does it always have to fall on wet paint??? ) in fact i'd be interested to know how you (where?) paint your models. It is of course not finished, the main difficulty of geting that horrible britains cabin to resemble something like the real one is still to be done. A part from that the exhaust and lights have to go on and I am not sure yet wether it will have a loader or a front linkage (or both?) or what I will badge it as.
-
Well, it's been a while, so I thought I would give you a bit of an update...
MF 8280 + krone baler in hay :
More pics to come sometime soon of the new additions to the yard.

I also have one, and I have got all the measurements (at least I think I have... ) because I also want to make one...

Straw bales
in For Sale
Posted
Hello everybody
I'm booked until the end of my summer holidays now, and with the return of school I shall not be able to keep making these bales. I am therefore not currently taking any orders, but I will let you know when the next opportunity arrises.
Also, some of you have certainly noticed, but these straw bales are now available through the holly loves toys website.
Thanks.
