robbo
Looks to me like the PTO shaft isn't beefy enough to be the drive for the rear wheels, I suspect it's the drive for the internals and gravel delivery conveyor on the trailer part. I have been back for another look and I tend to agree with you, the skid unit looks like a 2 wheel drive and the pto drives the conveyor and chute for the gravel
archbarch
the stonecarts i used had a hydraulic motor to drive the conveyor. The pto shaft on this model goes into what looks like a tank and then out again going by the pipe work so this would suggest a large oil feed it maybe hyd drive to the rear axle and mechanical conveyor via the shaft or vice versa. The shaft does carry on toward the rear of the machine. That maybe a gearbox to reduce the shaft speed. Although the shaft does look small it would be adequate to provide drive to the rear axle. archbarch
i think the drive on a chafer pathfinder to the rear axle is mechanical via a gearbox from the pto, similar to the set up on this tractor and stonecart. The only pathfinder i used was 2wd from the tractors axle. i used a jwt slurry tank a long time ago that had hyd drive to the axle but being hooked up to a muir hill never had to operate it. robbo
This isn't an 8210 it is a Ford 7840 but as it is a drainage contractors machine I thought that it would fit in better with this topic
archbarch
thanks for posting, that stone cart looks in state. Wish i had pictures of the Muir Hills and stone carts i used to drive in the mid 80s, we also ran a half-track Roadless.
