FendtFarmer
i am embarking on the project of building a shed, out of plastic and card, either going to be a machinery shed or potato store (yet to decide) first picture is of the frame i have made to ensure all 6 frames will be the same shape, angle, etc will be happy to pass on the measurements, etc to anyone. can anyone tell me what 20 feet converted into 1.32 scale is please, i cant seem to find it on any website. Cheers Ben P.s special mention to Mandy for kitting me out with the plastruct and card
FendtFarmer
cheers mark, by looks of things my shed will be about 95cm long
FendtFarmer
will do the same or it will be 71cm long if i go for 15 feet bays, but 20 feet bays are the way to go
Deere-est
I convert all the imperial measurements into millimetres and then divide by 32. The dairy house I built Tim (manor farm) was 12ft eves and 20ft bays I think, can't remember what the span was. How high is yours to the eves? This will help you decide on a use, if it works out right for stacking boxes in then make it a root store, if not then it can be a machinery/general purpose covered storage. Deere-est
cheers mark, by looks of things my shed will be about 95cm long How about the possibility of making it in two halves for storage and moving it around?
FendtFarmer
Tris, shed dimensions: width: 37cm = 39 feet height to eaves = 19 feet height to centre = 24 feet i have decided on a potato/cool store so i think i am going to have the store 4 bays long, and the final bay as a covered area for grading, etc
FendtFarmer
picture update of this evenings work. P.s anybody else making a shed like this, good luck when constructing the first bay, you need a lot of patientce
Deere-est
A nice size shed then, look forward to watching the progress I have built four or five like this now. The biggest being for Tim. I have my own beef shed to finish and next I'd like to build a grain drier
Deere-est
That's better, I can see your photo now. I couldn't earlier on the old 'phone! I built my first one just like you are but I soon learned to build on base board. . . Gives the structure some strength.
FendtFarmer
added a further 2 bays this evening, before getting distracted to watch the epic thunder storm Tris, i built a grain dryer out of a wood post and other bits and bats of wood, looks oright i must say, then spray painted with chrome or summat like that paint
FendtFarmer
mine isnt on a base board, and they are super flexy. so might consider a base board. Also to give you a size of the shed, the only place where its big enough to stand the shed on is the freezer
Deere-est
I know that feeling, the only space I could put the dairy house was in the bedroom we are yet to renovate! This is the beef shed I must get back to soon:
robertw1
You have made a really good job of that beef shed I envy any cow living in that.

FendtFarmer
have done a bit of work, added the final bay and glued roof supports on, no pictures atm though. trying to find balsa wood now that is the right dimensions
Deere-est
What's the balsa for, Ben?
FendtFarmer
the balsa is for the walling, its going to be a shed with concrete panels, but foamed inside
Deere-est
Ah I see. I use 4mm MDF, slides down the I beam a treat. That said, I spoke to 'dicky' today who had trouble finding 4mm, only 6mm (which I use for the base).
FendtFarmer
i spoke to mandy at spalding and she said use 6mm mdf, so am just opting for balsa, then sticking to a mdf base from which i will sit my shed on and secure and add other detail etc.
Tractorman810
i tend to use 6mm mdf for my building bases, but thats because i was being tight and had some off cuts, plus its kept in the loft so the thicker the better to prevent warping, which has happend even then, but not as bad as thinner,
FendtFarmer
i still need to buy wood yet, dont have anything big enough, might look around the farm actually
Tractorman810
6mm plywood or alikes may be as good, bound to find ply on a farm if its thicker you could dig ditches out of it?? make slopes into the barns, stuff like that,
FendtFarmer
am only bothered putting my shed on a base at the moment, then the ultimate plan is a potato scene for my ros grimme
