M-H 101 Senior sold with Mower. Made in 1941 and has a petrol engine.

We heard a lot of squeaking from the starting handle as the new owners tried to start it. It was not started before I left but I'm sure the folk who bought it attend the Fraserburgh rally so you never know I may well see this tractor again and hopefully running.

It sold for £ 1,400 including the mower.

Wallis 20/30 made in 1928

I could have got this wrong but I think I overheard folk saying the engine was siezed on this one. Anyway it sold for £ 3,700

M-H GP 4 Wheel drive made in 1934.

Spent its working life in Canada and imported by Ian. It is fitted with a Hercules engine.

Speaking to one tractor collector he described the design of this tractor as being way ahead of its time and I suppose it was really to have a 4wd back in 1934.

It sold for £ 7,000

The final tractor in the sale was a M-H Challenger rowcrop and was manufactured in 1938. There is a fair bit of history with this tractor and was purchased by Ian in 1997 from J turiff from Rora near Peterhead in Aberdeenshire. This tractor is fitted with its own engine and was bought new by K Coupar from Migvie near Kirriemuir from James Mackintosh at Forfar at the last Angus show before World War 2. Ian's father had bought a 3 wheeled model at the same show which had a registration number one digit different from this one. This tractor had ended up in scrap year at Forfar not very far from where it was sold yesterday. J Turriff rescued the tractor from the scrapyard in 1962. Unfortunately the tractor got burnt when a fire destroyed the shed it was being stored in. After purchasing the tractor in 1997 Ian restored the tractor including fitting new tyres all round.

I spoke to a few tractor collectors yesterday on this tractor and it said to be very rare. I'm sure someone said there was supposed to be only three remaining models of this tractor. One chap said it had been rumoured that this tractor would sell for £ 30,000.

It did not make that amount yesterday but after some fierce bidding the hammer fell at £ 18,000.

Its just such a shame Ian was not there to see what this tractor made.

Ian did not collect models but there were a fair number of models on sale yesterday. I took prices best I could but initially I think I was too close to speakers where the models were being sold. When I moved across beside the canteen and between the first two rows of tractors I found I was hearing the auction better. Perhaps there were less other folk chattering in that area as well ;) ;)

No 282 A Franklin Mint Farmall A in 1/12 scale made £ 80.

Although I have a real Farmall A I resisted buying this model when it came out since when I saw it in the adverts there were parts which were just too bulky and out of proportion to the real deal in my opinion. The smaller scale of the Farmall A made in 1/32 scale ny Nigel Ford of SCALEdown models is a better representation of the real tractor.

Well that's it from me from yesterdays sale. I certainly enjoyed it and hope you enjoyed the topic as well.

All prices quoted were the hammer prices I heard and wrote down so I hope I was hearing and writing correctly ;) ;)

A buyers premium of 10% plus VAT at 20% has to be added to the hammer price to arrive at the final purchase price.

In addition Lot 481 the Farmall M which realised £ 5,000 was subject to VAT as well which would have been another £ 1,000 before adding on the buyers premium plus VAT. All in all that tractor cost ( if my calculations are correct  :-\ ) £ 6,600....isn't that a Fordie number ;) ;) ;)

Anyway the tractor in question which I have to say did not stand out as being one which I would have described as a concours restoration.. Anyway just my opinion and I suspect the tractor which had remained in the Laurencekirk / Forfar area for all of its life made that price because of that and may well have been purchased by someone locally. Again just my thoughts on what was a good price but then again it is a Farmall and you do have to pay for quality ;) ;)

When it comes the time to sell my Farmalls I think I will need to get Graham to sell them if he can achieve such prices ;D ;D

Looking back at the prices John it was mostly the straight petrol versions which sold cheaper. Maybe its the cost of running them on UK petrol prices which made them seller cheaper than the other ones :-\

No 274 NZG Caterpillar RD 8 ( Limited Edition ) 1/25 scale made £ 20 MADE £ 550

For whatever reason I had noted this model down as making £ 20 and had  £550 for No 275 and ERTL John Deere 3010 in 1/16 scale. :-[  I did not report on the JD because I thought an ERTL JD wasn't worth that or I must have written down £ 550 instead of £ 55

Anyway the man who sold No 274 The CAT RD8 has confirmed it was sold for £ 550. Apologies and thanks for letting me know Graham.
